Anyone tried out an auto vent for radiators?

I have been doing a lot of work on the house lately and stumbled across an auto vent. The system is pretty big and removing the large venting requirements after a drain down is welcome!

They arrived today and I've fitted one in the highest point of the system (towel rad) and will do the same (another towel rad) for the other side of the house.

My system has 15 radiators and bleeding all of them is a royal pain! I'll post an update to this thread after my next drain down.

Air will get trapped in individual high spots so you have to bleed all the rads, most CH systems are relatively low pressure and even with the pump the air won’t get shifted to a single high spot.

Most modern boilers have an AAV built into them.

How often are you draining down your radiators that this is worth the time/money to do?

You mean the Aladdin valves? We've used a few over years randomly. Usually for older people that can't vent rads.
Had a couple of those, did the job. No complaints if you want to fit and forgot. That being that said over the past 11 years we’ve had so much work done and done my self with the heating and such that I just ended up wanting to do it myself so never bothered in the later years.

Yes, laziness is persisting for me on this one. If it means I need to vent even a little less often then I'm all for it. They're cheap enough.

I've got one more radiator to add to the system, then some X400 for a clean out (mix of 8 and 10mm microbore with 22mm manifolds). The system hasn't had any TLC for about 4 years - it's full of crud. Quite a few drain downs and refills in my future.

Auto vents sound like a good idea but I'd be concerned about the sealing mechanism breaking down over time.

Are they pretty reliable?

Not really. When I installed my C/H system I put an AAV at my manifold where my flow diverts to all my different zones - it's also a high spot. I put an isolation valve in front of it specifically because they're notorious for failing.
