DRAM Prices Surge 172% YoY with No Signs of Slowing Down

Wouldn't be surprised they all go that way- have to ship to other side of the world at your expensive, with additional insuarnce..

That's why I buy Corsair memory.

I had a stick fail a couple of months ago, RAM was bought in 2021, Corsair emailed me a paid returns label, a no hassle RMA, kudos to them.

Didn't buy from OCUK.

Corsair are great to deal with direct.

Plus OCUK wouldn't want to know after 12 months.

That's interesting, I'm guessing that you didn't know that Corsair UK, is the Bolton competitor... Yes, that one, who everyone slates, especially when it comes to RMA's!
So that's rather surprising to me that you had a good experience.

Recently, I had a terrible experience RMA'ing a Corsair PSU, via said competitor's RMA team; in their own words:
"We ARE Corsair UK, whether you buy direct from Corsair's website, or from us, it always goes through us, and we deal with it!"

They messed me about for nearly a week, so I ended up speaking to multiple staff, and each one, confirmed that this was true. Maybe it's not public knowledge?

However, there's always that 1 nice person, regardless of the company, so you may have been lucky - that or Corsair UK's website, has different phone staff for RMA's, that then forward it onto the Bolton competitor's RMA team?

When you think about it though, it makes sense, as they only sell Corsair RAM, which in itself raises eyebrows, as they're restricting their own profits on an entire product line... You'd only do that if you could afford to take the loss ;)

Still got a 2x8GB vulcan set that one stick failed on (around 2020).... didn't bother RMA as it was only around £30.

Same kit is now £100 and in stock, might have to take them up on the lifetime warranty

Why?
Just say what you were going to say, I wasn't trolling - I just wondered if you knew, that Scam, was the UK distro?
As it's a worrying issue, considering how bad Scam are for RMA's? So it's worth warning people?

I've been buying from that shop for about 15 years, signed up for the free carriage from linking through another forum in 2009. Anyway I've generally always had good experiences with them. Especially their insurance which I've needed a few times which really is no quibble.

What was the issue with the power supply?

Same :)
I've been buying from them for 20+ years, and used the same Hexus forum discount that you speak of ;)

Their RMA team is very hit or miss, it has definitely got worse in the last 5 years though.
But overall, they do a 'good enough' job, where it counts - however, when they slip up, by God, don't they!

As you asked... With the PSU, they were trying to stitch me up big time - it's supposed to be a like for like, ala I have a Platinum PSU, with 7 years warranty; so that's what I get if it fails.
However, they tried to palm me off multiple times with PSU's £80-120 less, Bronze/Gold rated versus my Platinum, and with 3-5 year warranties. No thanks!
I eventually threatened them with a charge back - then as if by magic, they could offer me a true like for like, all in the same breath.

For transparency, I have RMA'ed various things, and overall, had a positive 60/40 experience, but the more expensive stuff, that has failed quickly, they have tried to con me each time.
I won't accept that, and nor would anyone.

TLDR, my comment was relaying the frequent mentions of said Bolton store, of which are 90% negative regarding RMA's.

I remember reading recently, that one of our members, was conned out of a replacement/refund, and left substaintially out of pocket by them, on something like RAM, that would have been lifetime warranty, such as Corsair claim.

As always. Buy as soon as you need, don’t wait. Don’t wait for some pathetic fake sales, don’t wait for a price drop that will never happen. Do you need the item? If yes, buy now. If not, buy never.
Definitely not as always, consoles used to tank in price as the years went on. PS5 is already on two price rises and the thing is 5 ******* years old.

Technology has never felt so stagnant yet so expensive.

I find this whole thing fascinating and disgusting. I am really fortunate to have upgraded my main system in the summer, and also just upgraded my mini PC (sits under the TV) this week with a reasonably priced kit, but the ramifications for smaller system integrators, case designers, and tech youtubers, and so on ... well if nobody can afford to upgrade (again), then a lot of people will suffer.
