*** The Official Steam Deck Thread ***

i thought i had killed my steamdeck over the weekend. i dropped it and on its way down the joystick smashed against the corner of the table ripping it out of its mount. i forced it back in with a knife but it was jammed solid.
thankfully i took it apart and put it back together and it is working fine. i must say i was very impressed with how easy valve give us access into the console. even if the joystick had been ruined, its just 8 screws to get into it then another 3 to remove the joystick (and a ribbon cable to unhook) so easy even an idiot like me could manage it so it would have been an easy and (fairly) affordable fix.

no space. i have filled up the internal storage as well as an external card. i could have course buy an extra memory card and swap that in and out............. infact now i think of it..... that would have made far more sense.!. damn.......... oh well!.
put a bigger nvme drive inside it :)

Do any of you guys bother with trying to hook the Deck up to a mobile phone in order to give it an internet connection when out and about? I have never tethered anything to my mobile phone before. What are the ins and outs of that specifically? There are some games which need an internet connection and I was wondering if anyone has really looked in to this?

i have used a hotspot for online gaming before using my steamdeck. it worked......... ok!. i didnt have the best 4G so i was not using it for competetive gaming, but just for games which need a connection to work. personally i set my hotspot up to mirror my home network. that way i dont have to set anything up, my devices just see the network they are used to connecting to.

Cheers. You'll know what I'm on about here, this is largely to do with that very rare occasion where I am doing an Elite Dangerous CG and I'm looking at the required 75% score creeping up while I'm at work and I'm like, damnit I wish I had my Deck now to top it up etc. So would be very very rare. I think I'll be ok for the current one, but useful to know it just works. It would only be for a 15-30 mins session I would guess if it came to it.

I've not had a chance to play yet :o gonna set up new accounts on it for Mrs and our daughter so they can play, been looking into steam family share which is great imo.
I'm gonna download Stardew Valley and thinking of getting The Prescient as well.

Haven't had much time to play last few years due to having a young son. He is three now so more time on my hands. I've missed out on loads of games

Cool, one of the things i love about the deck is its great for quick blasts on games when you havent really got the time to invest in a long session, the sleep and resume function is awesome for that.

Another game ive got in my library that i havent played yet, but will be perfect on the deck is cult of the lamb, have a look at some youtube vids etc if you havent heard of it, gets great reviews everywhere
and seems quite a unique game.

The deck also runs dirt rally at a solid 60fps with no dips at all when locked at 60, think i have it on high settings also, its fun to play on the deck although im rubbish at the game lol.

Now stop wasting time and start playing some games on your new toy :)
