Show Us Your Motors!

Ah yes I did see the badge where the normal badge is a S etc, and wondered what is was. I know with the XK I can go for a jaunt, with the missus, and it's the best GT out there. Put it in 'Sport' and it's a proper sports car.

Come back when you have some real BBS LM's :p

joking of course :), Gibbo, get them painted/powder coated in gold and it would really pop imo!
They don’t make em like this anymore. God I love the GTO

McLaren has had car past month for its annual hibernation and warranty work:

Car has had a minor issue for months I never addressed where fuel cap actuator would prime constantly sometimes putting drain on battery. In Italy it became an issue as it would randomly pop open whilst driving causing an engine error message the same message was also triggered by poor fuel quality due to only 95 at some stations and hence knock sensor would be triggered.

So took it to McLaren a month ago for them to diagnose and resolve I also had them do a gearbox / clutch oil change as scheduled every 20k and having done around 8000 miles this year that was overdue.

They diagnosed the car had a snapped front spring so they fitted a new spring and damper as they change as complete assembled units so happy about that as year before the offside had a leaking damper so they changed that damper and spring plus bushes. That means cars front end suspension has had a full refresh now about £6000 worth of work all under warranty.

They also fitted a new fuel cap actuator and the heater failed whilst in their care and noticed heater resistor was always on and draining power so the heater and fuel cap was reason for my gremlins so car got a new heater module installed.

Collected car and drove home but unfortunately they had forgetting to calibrate the heater and I got engine system fault message again.

So today I’m back:

For a while I wait repair, heater should be simple recalibration so that direction vents and heat adjustment works, was a cold roof down drive in this morning but good fun.

As the car had been sat at McLaren for a month in freezing weather on less than half a tank we thought maybe fuel had gone off a bit and this causing message (no engine light) or knock sensor failing. Anyway brimmed tank with Vpower and every drive since no more messages so either poor fuel or gone off due to been sat in cold weather.

They are scanning knock sensors just in case and will replace all 4 under warranty if any issues so just waiting now.

All in all fingers crossed car is all fixed now and ready for another year of epic motoring in 2026 I’ve already booked a driving holiday to the Black Forest for May and South of France for September for some more epic European road driving.

Car has its little gremlins but has never let me down and still amazes me, 27k miles and counting now and the warranty is superb as it covers the entire car, a big improvement over Ferrari where warranty was not worth paper it was written on and it cost twice as much as McLaren.

It's likely a failed sensor rather than just because it's seeing a little knock. Modern engines/ECUs stock and on good fuel will still tickle a little knock correction here and there as the OEMs are trying to run as close to the knock limit as they possible can for power/emissions/economy

So they discovered that the valve controllers, one of the wires into the end of connector was broken, due to heat from exhaust and going brittle. They chopped connecter and effecting wiring out and put fresh wires and new connector on. So that was most likely the culprit all along, including the engine tone been off sometimes as they say what was happening is the valve was working but with dodgy wire both sides were not always perfectly even, hence engine tone been off (could only spot this through hair pins in mountains of Italy but did coincide if this message was illuminated, as did fuel cap been open, so maybe bit of both.

Anyway all seems sorted now, hopefully no more random messages.

@Gibbo Mclaren certainly are the supercar version of JLR reliability
I don't know of anyone that doesn't have on-going issues with them.
It's not like it occurs at high mileage either :(
They're great when they behave, like an Alfa :P where as JLR are just **** at everything, all the time :D

McLaren has never let me down and daft little gremlins don’t bother me when they step up and sort it out, service has been nothing of superb and that is more important.

My F-Type SVR never had a single issue I only owned it a year but it was trouble free.

My McLaren has had a tough life it’s now done over 15,000 miles in my hands, several track days and has been over 180mph several times.

Whether it’s Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche or Ferrari they all have issues whether minor or major it’s more about how manufacturer resolves said issues.

What I will say is when it comes to how these cars drive McLaren is the best and by some distance with Porsche definetely the second best from a driving perspective but Ferrari and Lamborghini very special but all have issues from small to major there is no guaranteed perfect reliable brand but if they sort it stress free is what counts.

Fair enough :) I have seen some very silly things with Mclarens - 1 springs to mind, the rain causing a knock sensor to break; how that's even possible IDK

Love an F-Type ;)

Nice, used properly I see :D

True!
Yeah definitely, Mclaren definitely wins over a Porsche for me :) However, a Ferrari is more my overal perfect package.
Porsche wise, it'd have to be a 996 GT2, for me. I love how they used those headlights from that racecar ;) IYKYK :)

Gibbo's McClaren is still one of my favourite cars on here, stunning to look at and could easily be a daily driver. I've not done as many miles in my XK, but has been trouble free in my ownership. XF Sportbrake had a wobbly last week where it 'forgot' it's key, whilst having a paint repair. Being keyless entry that meant doing the diagnostics in the garage. The instrument cluster had to be reprogrammed, not for the faint hearted that.

Did they do that under warranty or 'good will' out of interest? It's a weird situation, I've had all 4 dampers now! 3 of them were leaky dampers but one was a snapped spring, which is 'wear and tear' and therefore wasn't covered despite you only being able to get a spring with a damper - so the same claim as if it's a leaky shock then which is explicitly covered by warranty, bizarre.

Anyway they did do it under good will with very little nagging so happy so far.
