Do you think people would sign up to Netflix just to watch it? I'm guessing so, and I'm guessing Netflix will make a nice sum from it, globally.
the mike tyson vs jake paul netted them 1.8 billion pounds. thats why they do these fights. yes they get 50 or more so million each but thats chump change when they earn billions

Is anyone watching Tate vs DeMoor tonight? It's on at a more reasonable time of 10pm.

I normally wouldn't watch any misfits fights but curious to see if Tate can actually fight as good as he thinks.

Do you have a link to those numbers? 1.8 billion seems a hell of a lot of
its been on all the fight broadcasts and main boxing youtube people for last few weeks talking about it. people dont realize just how much these events generate so what they pay jake paul or aj is just a drop in the ocean and why netflix got into boxing.

Tate was actually a really good kickboxer (that's how he initially rose to fame), but he's old now and pure boxing is a different game so it will be interesting.

It all depends if they hired him an opponent to beat or an opponent to fight.

You’re going to have to help me out with a link. All the ones I’ve found say Netflix probably lost money on Tyson fight and it was more a long term strategy to provide value to existing subscribers

if you watch youtube with gareth davies he mentions it a lot. sadly i havent got the 20 youtube videos at hand talking about it. but its been mentioned on numerous big boxing channels for probably the last 3 months. ifl boxing raw and so on. all the main daily boxing channels on youtube.

here you go i found a break down so people understand https://arthnova.com/jake-paul-tyson-netflix-fight-made-more-money-than-real-boxing/

actual amount 2.27 billion dollars. then people moan about what they got paid. its nothing to what netflix earn. thats why they get so much

"Netflix added 18.9 million subscribers in Q4 2024, more than double what analysts expected. The company credited Paul vs Tyson and NFL games as major drivers. At $10 average revenue per user monthly, those 18.9 million new subscribers generate $2.27 billion annually."

Includes NFL and the 2 billion figure is the annual figure, it also includes the ~9 million subs that they were already expecting, it's still crazy though. I wonder how many stayed. Looking at their Q1 25 figures and they said revenues increased but didn't share sub numbers. Revenue also surely increased due to price increases.

So the "2 billion for the first fight" is not accurate at all.

Thanks, I think, I actually read that article. There are a lot of if and buts, potential global audience, existing subscribers they’d still be there without the fight? The obvious one of the new subscribers how many renewed their subs and stayed for the full year which is what the calculation is based on.

Netflix clearly believe in the strategy, my point was and I’m still to be convinced these fights are profitable in the short term.

IIRC Netflix don’t release viewing numbers do they?

It's a pretty poorly written piece.

its explains what insiders already been talking about in boxing for months since the tyson vs jake paul fight happened. the fights basically dont generate more than they cost they lose but on subscriptions gained they make billions.

Potential on the subscribers it says that in the article you linked to. Only billions if X% of subs stay for more than Y time.

When we know X & Y we’ll know with more confidence how much they made from new subs.
