BTF motherboards. Soon to be the standard, or unnecessary and expensive?

gotta separate the BTF motherboard standard from the integrated GPU power connections.

they are separate things, and will experience success (or failure) separately.

i'm a big fan of the BTF motherboard standard (stealth, rc, project zero, etc). it is lovely to build in.

whether there is a real transition to integrated GPU power connections...

... i'm less sure about this. not sure there is a benefit achieved that is worth the transition cost.

I'm the opposite, I don't have any interest in having the connectors on the back of the motherboard but I would like a better solution than 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 cables and connectors.
I think the benefit of having the power connector on the board is it means it's going to be less likely your connector isn't seated completely and in full as the graphics card won't sit properly in the PCI-E slot if it's not. Of course it just moved the connector from the PSU elsewhere onto the back of the board so there's still a possible element of the connector not being pushed fully home.

Oh yeah, I didn't really think how the power would be fed to the motherboard...

So don't buy a BTF system then?
again, i'd suggest you need to separate the utility of BTF from the fringe benefit of a pimpin' looking window.

my case came with a window, i didn't care, the benefit i derived was from an easier build process and the promise of easier upgrades as all the cabling is in the (roomy) back of the case - without the usual mess of cabling routed back to front.

I don’t think so. It is quite slow if I’m honest.
Bought a motherboard few days ago and was surprised most models (except the £500+ Asus option) are either light grey or white. I don’t want a white build.
