eBay gone to pot?

Between that and the incessant ‘Live Now!!1!1!’ notifications, I’m very close to uninstalling the app and just using the website from now on.
I thought it was just me & I might've triggered something in the algorithms to make them think that I was interested in this crap, obviously not!

They’re trying to appeal to teh kidz, seemingly oblivious that teh kidz aren’t using their app. Adults are using their app, and they’re getting more and more ****ed off at the constant en****ification of something they’ve used for 25 years.

Seems like there's a definite increase in the dislike of changes of ebay now. I did receive an email about they're introducing another postage system, akin to go to corner shop and get label. Again it's a no from me.

All I want is the postman to collect from safeplace, bring the label, and done. Anything less is a lesser service than before. Yes you can do this in theory, but dysfunctional system says no.

I buy and sell.

As a buyer it's always been fine. You can raise a case against any issues and it's done.

As a seller? It's fine. But I prefer the old delivery system. I only use RM but I still prefer old system where picking the box size etc was done by yourself after the sale.

I buy and sell less over time now though.

Glad it's not just me. I thought I'd accidentally turned in an option somewhere to get those.

I think it's a bit better but I'm only a buyer who sells maybe one item a year.

I'm glad they moved away from PayPal, I hate that company with a passion

They’ve started pushing ads for Klarna to phone screens just in time for Xmas. Scumbags.

I didn't want to disable ebay app notifications. As I want the "you've sold" notifications.

But as with many apps now there are so so many notifications I either uninstall the app or disable notifications.

I used to like PayPal.
But unfortunately their two factor is so slow.

I actually either use CC (as my browser often can auto fill if the website is set up well) or Google pay on most websites now. For Google pay it's just a fingerprint for authentication.

PayPal? Just too many screens to even bother with.

I feel PayPal is going to die off. I know it's share price isn't great. But it now adds nothing vs other methods.

I've used eBay fairly regularly for quite a while with little to no issues, apart from very recently.

I sold my 3900X to someone with a good level of feedback, so I don't believe that this person(s) is/are responsible, though, of course, I can't be 100% sure.
The buyer reported that it didn't work - which it most certainly did when I sent it - and had done so without missing a beat for nearly 6 years.
He claimed that it fried his motherboard, which I highly doubt, as it could well be due to other causes, such as a corrupted BIOS/update,
or poor attempt to physically install it (maybe he didn't know how to install it properly). Maybe another component took out the motherboard, who knows?

I accepted a refund out of goodwill, which is something I normally don't do, and waited for it to arrive back at my address.
Royal Mail confirmed that it did arrive, which is totally incorrect. I contacted the local delivery office and the lady on the front desk informed me that the manager would contact me when he/she was available,
though, naturally, I don't have much hope that it will be satisfactorily resolved.

Anyway, lo and behold, I'm happening to check eBay today, and there it is... my CPU is being resold (well, those are my photos anyway).
I contacted the 'seller', but I doubt I will receive a response. In this situation, eBay have been useless.

I can't even leave feedback unless I click the 'positive' tab.

I don't see me selling anything of a technical nature on there again. Too much of a risk.

I don't work in I.T., so I have no idea how much sensitive information can be extracted from a processor,
but in any case, I've changed various security related details.

I'm my opinion as a private seller it's the best it's ever been. Over the past year I've sold numerous items large and small, the simple delivery and arranging collection from my address has worked really well, no third party payments like PayPal to deal with either. I've used the global shipping too this month sending an exhaust to Germany, no problems at all.

I've never used it to sell personally. But still find it reliable for purchasing. Recently purchased a 2k private reg and it was seamless.

Recently sold an item through the Simple Delivery system, the item was delayed in the mail, for some reason I was looking on the contact buyer screen and it popped up with a message, your buyer has made contact about the delivery of this item, as it's on Simple Delivery we'll deal with them directly.

eBay took all the heat for it, which was nice :D

I can't work out if that's an automated almost random message. Once was instantly after I messaged the buyer updating him I'd dispatch on Monday, he paid on Sunday, asked for a Buy It Now which I gave, and he said he was really happy. I also received decent unprompted feedback. Seems unhelpful to me.

Out of interest, to the more I.T. experienced professionals on here,
should I be concerned that someone may be able to extract personal data from a component such as a CPU (mentioned further above on this page)?

I can't deny that I was very worried yesterday, but have since changed a number of security related details.
I telephoned my bank and was told that I'd done the right thing and that there wasn't much more I can do.

Thank you. :)

No a processor doesn't store any of your details so you are perfectly safe in that regard. It's hard drives you need to be concerned about.

Out of interest what postage was used for the return and did the tracking details have a photo attached?

Thank you, Martin. :)

Off the top of my head, I believe that eBay charged me ~£6.00 for the postage, which was Royal Mail tracked.
I don't think there was a photo attached to the tracking information.

One other detail, I recall, was that the postcode printed on the invoice was very slightly different to mine.
Of course, at the time, maybe naively, I assumed that it would find its way to me.

In that case you will need to contact eBay not Royal Mail.

As your item is back up for sale I suspect this could be a similar sophisticated scam that I saw 2 years ago. In my case I bought a lens that showed as delivered on eBay but nothing had arrived. The postcode was slightly different to mine (hospital nearby) and the Fedex tracking number was "authentic" as it worked on their site and showed time and date it was delivered to the hospital and name of person who signed for it.

It took a phone call to a real person at eBay to get my money refunded as the automated system ruled against me as all it sees is "delivered", not verifying the actual address.

I tested this scam on purpose a 2nd time as I was curious how they got the "authentic" tracking number. This time it was delivered to a funeral parlour about 1 mile from me. The DHL tracking showed as being signed by the director. I managed to speak to him and he said he was not in the office at the given time and no one else signed for anything either.

This lead me to conclude that the scammers have a way of generating tracking numbers with different couriers and use a business address in your vicinity.

Royal Mail Tracked48 normally have photos as proof of delivery so I'm curious exactly what RM postage was used in your case.

I've sold a few items also using the Ebay simple delivery, I was sceptical at first but Ebay shoulder all the loss if the parcel goes missing, just takes some time to get your refund.

I've also been on the receiving end of a parcel going missing from a seller in the US, Evri said initially the parcel had gone missing then just marked it as delivered which impacted my case and so I had to call up Ebay and speak to someone who processed the refund.

I'd only use Ebay now for buying the odd collectible item that I can't get anywhere else, i've used CEX and the process is really good for getting rid of old iphones etc

My experience from selling using simple delivery is that 2 of thr 3 things I’ve sold have ended up with the buyer wanting a refund and eBay sorted it with no charge to me :???: I think that has to be skewed. Are buyers aware they’re on a route to scamming a feeebie?
