What is the go to then just set negative PBO on all cores and that's it? no other setting I need to change? I'd sooner not do these youtube overclocks where they are showing people how to change and disable every setting in bios asking for trouble that to me!

So set -15 negative all core pbo and no other settings like voltage or core clock?

These are the settings I change.

I set -15 not -25 as shown in the screenshot. If you want an easy overclock try -15 it should work. If not go -10.

To stress test use AIDA64.

See the section on stress testing the CPU in this video:

You might as well start -25 and test the cpu with Aida64 each time until you find stability.

Just take off -5 each time you test.

So -30, -25, -20, -15 -10.

Once you find something that is passing Aida64 I would let it run for about 30 mins and you should be good after that.

If you get any instability in a game just lower -5.

For context I ran my cpu at -25 for about 3-4 months and thought it was stable. I started getting blue screens in The Last of Us part 2 and I blamed the game. But in reality it was my under volt.

When I used Aida64 to check it was not passing. Only -15 passes for me and it has been rock solid since.

Edit....sorry I see it from the spoiler tab now. Ok I will look at this at some point I have a MSI board as well so the bios options should match up

So did a overclock -20 pbo and 200mhz core clock ( even though hwmonitor says 100mhz for some reason ) left everything else did not change overdrive scalar left on default

Does everything look ok here?

I would honestly just copy the settings I put in the screen shot. I got those from Igor's labs.

Also expand the section in the screen shot under clocks - cores so we can see what it boots.

I think it should be boosting to around 5.425GHz if it is working correctly.

Merry Christmas! Yeah I did everything in the screenshots except the scalar setting and did -20 pbo to start it runs at 5.425ghz in game according to MSI afterburner it passed 15 mins of aida64, had an hour on different games last night no crashers. BF6 ran the CPU up to about 73-76 which is slightly hotter than normal

BF6 is heavy on the CPU. 73-76c is fine.

Ok sound. I will leave it on the settings I have for now. Although I've seen a decent gain in FPS it's not night and day for me I don't think I will run into stability issues seems solid but if I do I'll just knock it all back to default settings not exactly struggling for FPS as it is with the 9800x3d and the 5090 :)

Most of the gains you’ll see will be with improvements to your 1% and 0.1% lows and general improvements to idle and load temps.

If you want to get more into it, you can spend time with the curve shaper and start to tweak at a much more granular level - but I think you’ll mostly be happy with what you’ve done!

Yeah games do run smoother and noticed a increase in FPS in all games. I have also worked out MSI riva tuner overlay in game causes odd micro stutters especially in battlefield 6 since I've not used that program it's been a lot better also. I can remember ages ago I had a similar problem with the razor software on a different system causing the same issues.

I have icue Corsair software that lights up my ram only so thinking of scrapping this and also the Logitech g-hub software that I use for the superlight 2 mouse I think the least I use the better. Well that's what I have got in my head at the moment.

I also have seen jayztwocent on YouTube praise this utility software from Christitustech that debloats windows 11 seems popular might give this a go!

You don't need these programmes running once you've got everything setup, they all should support on device memory.

I have a 280mm Corsair AIO and I only used iCue to set up the fan curves and then just swapped it to 'on device mode' and switched the iCue app off. It never launches or opens unless I want it to.

Likewise mouse software too. I'm not using a Logitech mouse right now but I have had a superlight 2 and would just sort out my side button mapping, DPI etc. and then swap to memory mode on the mouse and then never have those programmes running unless I needed to make any sort of change.

I've got a corsair keyboard and mouse but I've not set them up yet because I don't really want to run iCue but I'm also not sure I can store enough profiles on the device (I think my mouse is limited to 3, not sure about the keyboard).

Is there a reason why you'd want more than 2 profiles? I have a Wooting keyboard that supports two on device profiles (supports more on the web app that you can chop and change) but I've only ever had a need for a 'typing/work' profile and then I press Fn+Enter and swap to my gaming profile.

Wooting keyboard
what is this keyboard like btw? heard good things

I have uninstalled ICUE now my dominator platinum rbg ram won't light up oh well at least got rid of the software. Might look at getting rid of the logitech Ghub sofware only thing that concerns me is the charging and no notification on when the mouse is running low on battery im not fussed about the settings I have only set it too 800DPI and left the rest!

For the mouse I have a different profile for each game (mostly). Keyboard is probably less important although it might be nice to have profiles that only light up the keys used by each separate game.

I've just realised that this is in the 9800X3D thread, which does make it all off topic, sorry.
