Hi, new to all of this and would really love some help as I am so stuck, bought my daughter a gaming pc ( i7 3007) but it only had a 2gb graphics card so we bought a new one ( rtx 3050) followed instructions and slotted it in but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. The fans are not going round etc. I do see a 6 pin slot but there is no 6 pin cable attached for anything to be plugged in. Please please can you help at all?

To answer this we need specs for the pc and the model of the 3050.
If you can post photos also that often helps.

Guessing without that:
Sounds like the graphics card and power supply are not compatible.
Also sounds like a very old pc which probably isn't worth upgrading so likely wouldn't produce the desired result even if the graphics card worked.

What kind of PC is it? A pre-built or a mass-market PC?

Is it a proper gaming PC or an office PC?

If it is a mass market office PC from the likes of Dell/HP, it might not have a power connector.

If it is a pre-built gaming PC, then I'd hope it will have at least one available. If you have 8-pin PCIE connectors, they can usually split off into 6 pins (they are 6+2).

There is also a possibility that the PC maker supplied a modular PSU and did not give you the PCIE cables. If that's the case, it is very unfortunate, but potentially fixable, if you can find out the model of the PSU.

Note that the cable might be cable managed and tied up somewhere you can't easily see.

Removed my suggestion as having looked at some of the PC listings on there, i doubt the PSU will be up to the job.

unfortunately it sounds like you got scammed :(
that spec is nothing more than a pc capable of word processing/web browsing. it'll struggle to run games at reasonable settings.
i would also expect that the other components are also from the bargain basement.
if it is possible i would return that and start again :(

It would be helpful if you could download something like CPU-Z, so that we can see what's actually in the PC, though it won't tell you anything about the PSU.

Assuming that's an i7 3770 then yeah, great CPU back in 2012 when it launched but not so much today.

Download Speccy to the PC: https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy?srsltid=AfmBOoqhRfz9f4xWDPaEm2okMHR8HARNY6AKlNfQ44iEt2wirp8mjKTo

Free version is fine, tell us exactly what is listed under the summary section.

The graphics card is a rtx 3050 that we have upgraded too.

the psu is probably a linglong firehazard if it doesn't even have a 6 pin pcie connector!
and just as well that it doesn't if not OP will defintely be making use of her home insurance lol
Thankyou for your reply! No help at all.

I am completely new to this and have spent money for my daughter to be happy and have gone in blind. All I ask for is sensible advice that is going to help please.

The reality is, you can do basic gaming with an i7 3770 and an RTX 3050. 1080p at around 60hz.

The problem we will have is working out what your computer actually has inside.

There is an app you can download called CPU-Z which will show you the motherboard, memory, GPU, CPU. I would recommend installing the old graphics card and trying that out and getting as much info as you can that way.

A picture may also help, is it a standard self built or office PC, and can you unplug it, and open it to see any labels on the power supply? A picture of the open case and power supply, and motherboard may help.

Power supplies usually come with a 6+2 pin PSU to GPU cable to power the graphics card. If this was an office PC it may not have such a power supply, and may not be compatible I am sorry to say, but we cannot be sure without some pictures or specifications so don't give up just yet.

I know you had the best intentions, but throwing good money after bad isn't a good use of your hard-earned money.

Hi,
Thankyou so very much for your reply, I bought it on Amazon, it came already assembled for my 15 year old daughter to play. It’s her first pc for playing games on as she has a ps5 but wanted to try this so I bought it. She wanted to play Marvel Rivals but the graphics board was too low at just 2gb so I looked into things and the rtx 3050 was recommended so I bought that at an extra 200 pounds. Only to find that when we took old graphics card out and popped the new one in. It’s not doing anything but I do see a 6 slot socket to pop a cable into but I don’t see one anywhere unless it’s tucked in. How do I post a photo on here please I am so sorry !
