Checked some trends on a well know site and yeah, SSD prices across the board have shot up in the last month or so. Gulp!

Mem shortage is very much starting to bite, I feel sorry for anyone having no choice but to build in the new year.

May the force and Santa Clause be with you all.

Yeah, it really bites now. I'm so glad I purchased and completed my two main rigs prior for both RAM and SSD, as upgrading and grabbing more now would cost more than getting them a year ago.

I suspect given the way things are going, until we see the AI bubble burst, we're not going to see prices come back down any time soon and that could be a while. Although at that point I'd probably punish the offending parties by buying as late as possible.

And Samsung are rumoured to be ceasing production of remaining SATA models soon, which will likely cause shortages / push demand to different options and contribute to further price increase

Bloomin' eck!

Consumer NAS manufactures (and consumers) must be concerned at this rate, whilst typicaly Spindle drives are still the main, anyone wanting faster storage for access would need those SATA SSDs, meaning there's less options short of using an NVMe SSD cache which wouldn't sustain for long if you have a multi-Gbps connection.

I would like to upgrade the rotational drives in my NAS. I'd like to go 4TB and 7200rpm as I'm currently 2TB 5400rpm. I wrongly assumed these would be a cheap upgrade, given everyone is SSD nowadays, but it looks like give or take that it would cost me about £150. So that's £300 - as I need two. I think I'll get by with what I have for now.

Yeah platter drives are still expensive. I bought a WD elements 16tb recertified for £175

And just to roll that back, but Samsung have officially denied this

(* So it's probably definitely happening :D)

Interesting… I have a brand new 1TB Western Digital SN580 that I got for a project that didn’t go ahead.

Been sat in a drawer for the past year and I kept thinking I need to shift it or it won’t be worth what I paid for it.

I may be mistaken then! :D

Back in July i was buying 2TB MAP1602A TLC drives for £74.83:

Last week I managed to snag a Overclockers pre-order for a 2TB Team Group Z44A7 for £114.

This week they're £199.99 on pre-order... with no ETA in sight.

They're Def on the rise, I bought an Acer Predator 1TB GM7000 about a fortnight ago, £98, today it's £120, a 20 percent hike and it wasn't a black Friday deal or anything, just regular pricing, things might get bumpy in the longer period too!

I bought a Crucial T710 4TB NVMe during Black Friday week this year. It was £319.99, it was released in July this year and according to the PriceSpy website the lowest price its ever been since release was £289.99 for one day in October.

So that's like £80 a TB and its a fast PCI-e Gen 5 drive.

I swear the universe heard me mention I’d have the money to build/buy a new gaming PC in the spring and is punishing me in advance.

I’m in the very same situation. Been quite lucky in the fact that I managed to pick up some memory modules at the start of December for less than inflated to what they are currently. But the whole shopping list is just getting more and more expensive. Storage drives are just another kick in the teeth.
