Range Rovers - What are they like?

Yep which was fixed in 2019, still always worth budgeting for chain replacement anyway, all cars could suffer the same fate.

Potentially falls in to the period he's looking at though. And all cars could suffer the same fate but LRs are more prone to issues. Similar to Fords and their wet belts.

Thanks all the info. I won’t be looking at anything older than 2020 and the ones I’m looking at are only “cheap” compared to their price brand new.
It’s more the interior spec I’m interested in rather than the engine size - I’m not into drag racing. Current ones of interest are the p400e models which I think are just a 2l engine paired with electric motors.
I’ve not heard good things about Land Rovers either but I understood that Range Rovers were a different kettle of fish. I’ll look into everything mentioned. Thanks again

Interiors do hold up well, if I was buying one I'd get it from a main dealer and keep the warranty going. Plus point if it goes in they do supply a good selection of loan cars.

They are great cruisers did 4-5k on a Euro trip and it was superb, great ride/seats, best stereo I've heard in a car and the aircon didn't have any issues cooling it down quickly and quietly in 40c + outside temps, I'e found with other cars they are pretty much maxed out once it gets to those temps causing a lot of fan noise.

Oh yeah, my neighbour replaced his X1 with a 2025 RR this year. Can't remember the model, but he had many issues, electric issues being the significant. Despite the warranty, JLR customer service were woeful apparently. His patience wore thin to continue pressing them, so he ended up replacing it a couple months later with a VW T-Roc, which he's been much happy with.

X1 to Range Rover to a T-Roc? That's quite the change in value there. I mean, a 2025 Range Rover starts at £105k. A T-Roc at £30k. Are you sure he really went from an X1 to a Range Rover to a T-Roc? I mean, did he suddenly wake up one day and think; "Yeah, this old X1 would really be best replaced by a massive, luxury, SUV for 3 times the price"?

Honestly no idea of the intricate details behind it all, but that's all he said. He had his X1 for a few years. Replaced with the Range Rover this year. Clearly something went wrong due to what he mentioned to me, so he replaced it with the T-Roc. I just noticed the new Range Rover was barely there before it was replaced, so I asked him what happened.

Are you sure ? Father in law has one of the last V8 diesels and it's a MY20

He works for JLR :)

Jumping from an X1 to RR without realising the cost of maintaining a complicated, luxury vehicle is the kind of stupidity that gets people into a mess and end up on the internet moaning that all RRs are terrible

More likely it was a RR Evoque

Petrol deffo did so maybe not diesel ended. I think Covid allowed some extra scope for EU6d final or what ever. Loved that V8 gutted I never got to have some time with one.
The V8 diesel is a great engine the best diesel I have driven. What surprised me the most was the economy easily into the high 30s on longer trips considering that was cruising at 140kph with it's size/weight thought that was excellent.

Some of the diesel models have issues with DPF regen due to the way it is implemented - as in they need to be driven a specific way (more so than other vehicles) to do active regen and struggle to do it under normal driving unlike other vehicles.

Around where I live insurance on LRs and RRs is £LOL to the point you absolutely have to want one and have deep pockets and they are stolen regularly.

Not all RRs are terrible, yeah, but he told me the service from JLR was terrible. Though, terrible service is nothing new in general anyway. Plus, @radderfire raised a good point:

I think it's reasonable to expect your new, very expensive car, has few if any issues.

RR evoque would make sense, I just couldn't remember the model he had, but it was probably that based on similar price to the T-Roc.
