Yep which was fixed in 2019, still always worth budgeting for chain replacement anyway, all cars could suffer the same fate.
Available up to 2020, think that is model year so might even be some 2021 plates before they moved over to the straight 6 diesel. If I’m not mistaken that V6 was a Ford engine and not the current Ingenium lineup? The OP said 5 years old which falls into the Ingenium camp.
Are you sure ? Father in law has one of the last V8 diesels and it's a MY2019MY was the straight 6 intro rather than V6. 4.4 V8D had gone by then too.
X1 to Range Rover to a T-Roc? That's quite the change in value there. I mean, a 2025 Range Rover starts at £105k. A T-Roc at £30k. Are you sure he really went from an X1 to a Range Rover to a T-Roc? I mean, did he suddenly wake up one day and think; "Yeah, this old X1 would really be best replaced by a massive, luxury, SUV for 3 times the price"?Oh yeah, my neighbour replaced his X1 with a 2025 RR this year. Can't remember the model, but he had many issues, electric issues being the significant. Despite the warranty, JLR customer service were woeful apparently. His patience wore thin to continue pressing them, so he ended up replacing it a couple months later with a VW T-Roc, which he's been much happy with.
Honestly no idea of the intricate details behind it all, but that's all he said. He had his X1 for a few years. Replaced with the Range Rover this year. Clearly something went wrong due to what he mentioned to me, so he replaced it with the T-Roc. I just noticed the new Range Rover was barely there before it was replaced, so I asked him what happened.X1 to Range Rover to a T-Roc? That's quite the change in value there. What issues? Other than the timing chain I mentioned? Genuinely curious.

Jumping from an X1 to RR without realising the cost of maintaining a complicated, luxury vehicle is the kind of stupidity that gets people into a mess and end up on the internet moaning that all RRs are terrible
I know, doesn’t change that my father in law owns a MY20 V8 diesel. Double checked and it shows as MY20 on the Land Rover service portal. He works for JLR![]()
Petrol deffo did so maybe not diesel ended. I think Covid allowed some extra scope for EU6d final or what ever. Loved that V8 gutted I never got to have some time with one.Are you sure ? Father in law has one of the last V8 diesels and it's a MY20
More likely it was a RR EvoqueX1 to Range Rover to a T-Roc? That's quite the change in value there. I mean, a 2025 Range Rover starts at £105k. A T-Roc at £30k. The V8 diesel is a great engine the best diesel I have driven. What surprised me the most was the economy easily into the high 30s on longer trips considering that was cruising at 140kph with it's size/weight thought that was excellent.Petrol deffo did so maybe not diesel ended. That would make more sense. An Evoqe is T-Roc and X1 money. Not really a Range Rover though.More likely it was a RR Evoque
Not all RRs are terrible, yeah, but he told me the service from JLR was terrible. Though, terrible service is nothing new in general anyway. Plus, @radderfire raised a good point:Jumping from an X1 to RR without realising the cost of maintaining a complicated, luxury vehicle is the kind of stupidity that gets people into a mess and end up on the internet moaning that all RRs are terrible
I think it's reasonable to expect your new, very expensive car, has few if any issues.
