New Win11 build with a 9800x3d and 5070Ti. I'm running a cheapish AIMOS 2in1 USB KVM (not powered) to allow me to switch between my work Macbook and this Windows machine. Works great.

I know this is a common issue, but it just won't power down the KVM when switched off. I've turned on ErP in the BIOS, I've turned off Fast Boot in Windows 11, I've fiddled in Razer Synapse to switch off lighting when display is off. So what the heck else can I try?

Which port are you using? Some of them specifically supply power when off.

If you can give us the exact model can check the manual. Sometimes the ports are labelled with a power icon also.

Ah woops yes. It’s the Gigabyte Aorus Elite Wifi7. I checked the ports earlier but nothing marked up specifically.

Buuuut in typical fashion as soon as I posted about it I figured it out.

It’s because I’m using a Dell USB hub with pass through power for my MacBook. I was so happy that I could plug everything (including power!) into the hub and have one thing to plug into my MacBook. I guess it’s sending power “back” to my KVM. Ugh. How annoying. Guess there’s no fix really is there. The hub is plugged in, so it’s gonna power the KVM. Hmn.

Is it a hub that gets power through a plug, or from a USB port? You could disable the USB power, but obviously not a plug into the wall.

I was powering it through a plug to charge my work MacBook (and only have to plug one cable in). But I’ve reverted to powering the MacBook separately again with the mag charger. Not as tidy but at least I’m not inadvertently powering the KVM and mouse/keyboard 24/7.
