So I recently removed Facebook from my phone as I hate finding myself doomscrolling and being inundated with just utter nonsense.

What is really bothering me is people being accused of stuff, whether it's Trump is bad because he did this thing or some celebrity is a nonce or Starmer sucked Epsteins toes.

All this crap without ANY evidence. I'm sick of tired of randoms posting random posts all over the internet accusing people of stuff without showing the evidence. It's all social media, the news etc

What do you guys think of a new law that states you cannot make an accusation about a known figure (or anyone really) without including proof. This isn't to protect the left or right it's to stop all this slander of possibly innocent people.

Think, have you ever repeated something you read about someone that was bad and just accepted it without thinking well what's the evidence. Imagine if it was you.

Imagine I'm famous and someone replies to this thread saying I might be a weirdo or that I'm on some list. That in itself can change the perception of me when I've done nothing wrong.

Thoughts?

TBH Switch off the TV, radio and internet completely due to it all being corrupt and sponsored by the far left.

There is already such a law in Defamation. But if you say "allegedly" you seem to be able to get around with it.

In the US however....you can say whatever you want without backing it up, their defamation law is much harder to stick due to the 1st Amendment. So many people now just take it for granted, I mean they just "trust me bro" and they do.

So you want to completely erase freedom of speech?

What if a victim of a crime has no evidence? They can't say anything?
No that's kinda different. For instance the "Epstein List". People keep posting pictures of people without context with him which apparently makes that person evil by default. It's madness

No way free speech is paramount BUT I'm talking about specific things of people trying to say somebody did something that they might not (probably haven't) done

Is that the same as in the UK where you can promise the world in parliament and then when not delivered you have a get out of jail card?

In the UK, you are restricted basically to stay away from hate speech and stick to the facts. If you lie, then you are at real risk of a defamation lawsuit.

For example, I can say Trump is a rapist. That is a fact as he has been convicted in court.

Promise something in Paliment isn't a lie, it's like you can promise you deliver a project at work and failed. You might get fired, you might not. But that just mean you suck at work, it's not something illegal.

Think I deleted it back in 2014/15 and haven’t really missed it.

I have at time felt like it would be useful for the local buy/sell groups to off load stuff though.

As far as I'm aware there are no circumstances where defamation (libel or slander) is a criminal offense, so can't result in anything other than a civil case.

Keep Calm and Carry On has been usurped in the UK by Keep Annoyed and Be Hysterical.

Best to drop all social media, everybody seems to want to rant about something.like kids kicking their feet in a tantrum.
