Laptop screen keeps changing refresh and flickering!

Hi, I have a Asus Tuf Gaming F15 laptop, running Win11, and every now and again the laptop changes resolution/refresh rates, from 60hz to 144hz, and when it does the whole screen starts flickering where it is virtually unusable. I then have to right click on the desktop, go into display settings, go into advanced display settings and then manually change the refresh rate back to 60hz and the screen then returns to normal. This seems to happen at random, but seems to be getting more frequent, its happened twice today and is very annoying.

The laptop has the intel built in GFX adaptor (its an Intel Core i5 cpu) but also has a Nvidia GeForce GTX gfx card. I've been into the Nvidia settings and tried selecting the Intel gfx as default and also the Nvidia as default, but seems to make no difference?

Does anyone know how to stop this happening?
Thanx

  • Panel Power Saver
  • Auto refresh rate switching
  • Display power saving

If any of those are enabled, turn them off.

On TUF laptops especially, it’ll automatically switch between 60Hz and 144Hz when you unplug/plug in, and that can cause the flickering you’re describing. I’ve seen this exact issue a few times and that setting was the culprit.

Will have a look, cheers

In settings, system, display, brightness and colour, there was a "change brightness based on content" option that was switched on, so I have turned that off, but nothing else in the display section to indicate any power saving modes are on, so we'll see what happens.... cheers

Ok, so changed a few settings in system, and I have not had the screen flickering any more, and its been over a week now, so [fingers crossed] looks like whatever I changed has done the job.
Trouble is, I looked at so many settings and changed a few things and now I can't remember which ones made the difference, Doh!
Still a little victory though.... 8-)
