My friends 3080ti has died & he has decided to replace it with a 5070ti he currently has a Seasonic G12 GC-850W (non modular) PSU & is wondering if it will be enough to power the card & if he would need any (or what type of) adapters for it, can anyone help?

(hes on a tight budget so he doesnt want to have to replace the PSU)

He would need to take 2x 8-pin PCIe cables (there are 3 on that PSU if my Google foo is up-to-date) and then use a 12V-2x6 adapter. I think it should come with the new card. 850W is enough.

Thanks for replying I appreciate it (out of curiosity if I could convince him to upgrade his PSU s there any you would recommend?)

He's on a tight budget so why recommend replacing parts that doesn't need replacing?
Whilst the GC12 isn't a top-tier PSU it's not bad either. I'd only consider replacing that PSU if there's signs of failure (eg on a PSU tester or if there's a significant 12v rail voltage drop at load)
The 5070ti also draws less power than the 3080ti and the transient spikes are less harsh too. If anything, if that GC12 handles that 3080ti, it'll handle the 5070ti too.
Don't waste his money.

not trying to waste his money, he has had problems with the PSU in the past (or so he claims), when his GPU broke I advised him to get a 5070 (hes the one insisting on a Ti, I just figured if hes willing to throw extra money on that I'd see what options there are for a PSU too) for extra piece of mind

Realistically you'd be looking at £80-120 for a decent 750w-850w PSU. That might mean the difference between getting a 5070 or a 5070ti. Though the smart money would be on the 9070xt if he's not tied to the Nvidia brand/ecosystem

Might be worth exploring exactly what issues he's had. Could buy a PSU tester off Amazon (then cheekily return it)
that would be the smart option (if either of us were smart enough to understand it :p)

he seems to be set on this card MSI trio 5070 ti which looks like it needs 3 cables for the adapter (& despite what google says he's adamant he only has 2 cables  ) anyway I appreciate all the replies, thanks for your time ;)
