Id go for the ucg fiber over the max. Its not much more cash, and it a bit of a beast.

Careful with the 16 port poe, there isnt a lot of power budget on the poe, so check it will run all you need.

Im in a similar position.

Thanks mate, I'll look into that uscg fiber

Some help please.

I currently have a USG-3P which connects to my virgin modemin modem mode, a unifi switch and an AP. On the secoind port of the USG-3P I attached an old asus router running wrt and have connected that to my vpn.

I am sure there is a product that can do the job of routing domains via the vpn rather than using a external device, is that right?

Basically I want to use my current wifi AP and have certain domains routed internally to the vpn..
Thanks

Any of their modern gateways can do policy based routing, Cloud Gateway Fibre is a great little box.

Well, EE 1.6 went down momentarily yesterday while I was watching the Rugby (Sky Stream so IPTV effectively). The only way I knew the CGF had switched to 5G backup was the notification on the app. Very slick!
Did it correctly move back again afterwards? We have a similar system in the office with a draytec router. But it never switched back from 4g.

Also, what 5g modem are you using for that? Presumably it's on another WAN port?
Thanks

Yes, it moved back to FTTP afterwards.

I’m using the UniFi 5G max.

Can I select devices, or create a seperate wifi network to use the vpn or is it domain only?
Also, would the cloud gateway max do the same, the fibre one is a bit overkill for what I use in the house.
Thanks again.

You can select single devices (or multiple devices) or entire networks, and then choose whether to send all traffic down a VPN (or different WAN), or you can be more granular and select domain name/IP/region.

CGM should be fine, but the CGF has a much better CPU and would be more future proof.

Not convinced there's value in it being ruggedised when the interfaces are just the standard sockets, strip the cost out and let people put it into an environment controlled enclosure if they want, or sell it as an accessory. It's not like it can get hosed down in the arrangement it ships in.

The rigidness is its least interesting feature IMO.

I want to like Unifi gateways but they always come up short for the stuff I want to use them for. The software is getting rapidly better though so if that can continue for another couple of years maybe they'll get there. I needed to put a router in quickly a couple of weeks ago and went for Mikrotik because I needed baby jumbo frame support and a flexibility with doing IPv6 prefix delegation downstream to a router when the prefix itself was being handed to it via prefix delegation. quite niche I know, but RouterOS loves that sort of stuff.

Professionally found us turning to UBNT lately, the UCG and site manager has learnt itself so well to why we want. Add that to the recent switch additions meant that I’ve been allowed to swap our Cambium APs for U6s so we have a full stack.

For good measure I’m moving home now as well so I can get familiar again. I swore I wouldn’t and would stick with Zyxel but it feels like so much progress has been made over the last few years.

I was interested in the Zyxel stuff but their switch lineup is incredibly poor, and I made about three attempts to talk to them about becoming a customer and they never responded, so balls to them.
