Steam Frame (Valve Index 2)

Agreed yeh, the UI could be better, I'm just grateful the major barriers have been removed because these put a lot of people off sideloading.

It was a verbal tirade, he's a right potty mouth that one, we have to mute him on Mondays golf ;)
only when your in the room Mr.Cookie, only when your in the room.

the original message was related to steamframe pre-ordering and i was confused by the posted.

the original post :
What do you think about extreme scalping measures put in place due to likely low supply for launch
I’m guessing most people won’t like this but it’s probably the right thing to do because of how low supply will be
Mr Cookie, is Delisious *licks lips*
The day pre-orders open the first 10 mins will be limited to Steam accounts that are 20+ years old
After 20 mins orders will be limited to accounts 10+ years old
Then after 30 mins it will be open to all accounts

i re-read after posting realising it wasn't an official post but someone's wish list. i thought i had missed an announcement or something. wasnt a good night that day.

If it was possible at some point to pre-order, I doubt this would be an option, would anyone consider doing that..?
Generally, albeit mainly software games, I have rarely had a good experience of doing that, often ending in regret.

I would still be pleasantly surprised if this makes it out, and not just a paper launch, in the first half of this year. Even more so if the price is reasonable, below £800, by quite a bit.

Quest 3 is better for me for sure because I am in passthrough so much so the Frame was a non-starter for me anyway.

How hard or expensive would it have been to just add a simple colour camera, even if it had none of the usual mixed reality stuff like dynamic occlusion etc, a standalone device, which by its very nature can be used almost anywhere, needs decent passthrough imo so the surroundings can be adequately seen. I appreciate i've voiced this before but I still can't get my head around Valve not including decent passthrough in 2026 on a standalone device.

Maybe there's a lot more to it that I don't understand.

the chip they are using is restricting colour pass through and the amount of cameras it can have. if it was the XR chip it would be included.

Post from Gamertag VR on his YouTube channel:
Today I went hands on with Steam Frame. I haven’t got any proof however due to anonymity. Therefore I wasn’t allowed to take any pictures but they have said I can share my experience. I even tried Half Life Alyx running stand alone on the headset which was interesting.
Hopefully by now long term subscribers to the channel know I’m not a liar so if you have any questions let me know and I’ll do my best to prepare a video for tomorrow and be as thorough as possible. To be clear this isn’t a full review for expectations. Cheers
