More Australian beef headed for Europe under new EU trade deal

In the country side :D

All jokes aside. Go onto google maps, type in UK and set it to satellite view. Zoon in slightly and pan round the whole of the UK. Empty fields galore.

I work in agriculture, there are not empty fields galore. Fields are used for growing crops as well as rearing livestock, some of those crops will be used to feed livestock. If they are 'empty' then that would mean it isn't suitable to be used in agriculture.

Don't Oz use hormones in their beef and have lower standards than the EU and UK?

~45% of commercially produced Australian beef contains added hormones. The rest does not. The beef we export to the UK and EU contains no added hormones, and meets UK and EU standards.

Also I'm surprised we're not relying on more local sources. it seems daft to me to ship stuff from the other side of the world when it's readily available nearby. Not very ecological is it?

Australia has been exporting beef to the EU since 1968.

The EU imports our beef for two main reasons: firstly because domestic supply cannot meet domestic demand (partly a result of European beef production decreasing over the decades) and secondly because we produce high grade sustainable grass-fed beef that is always in demand among European consumers.

Exporting British beef to Australia is very difficult due to our high biosecurity standards. Exports of Australian beef to the UK have increased by 415% since we signed the 2023 UK-Australia Free Trade Agreement, but no British beef has been exported to Australia during the same period.

Thanks for the info, genuinely. :)

Other than being in Oz I don't think I've had Aussie meat but good to hear what we receive is good quality.

I'll keep an eye out for it in the future.

Now if they can start exporting kangaroo I'd be delighted!

Amber nectar -no ?

isn't this old news thought dearest liz struck this great deal - (trump prodigy) and we get to fix the subs.

farming programme was talking about geese shooting up in scotland (they can't be bothered to fly south because of global warming & thriving there) so
looking forward to that on the dinner table, if not kangeroo, too;
having had some venison steaks a few weeks back - would be nice if they were more ffordable.

Ahhh we must be getting closer to the weekend, the ramblings of a madman are starting to appear again

Also, they don't sell Fosters in Australia. Or make it. Some of the bars in the backpacker heavy parts of town may import the odd keg in, they used to many years ago, doubt it's worth the bother to them these days.
