iPhone 18 / Pro / Pro Max / Fold

I’m getting nearly two days out of my 17 PM.

I say ‘nearly’, because I’m going to bed with under 10% which is pushing it.

The only way to do that is to have worse cameras or double the phones weight, so neither are viable. A lot of the Chinese phones are using new battery tech that gives you more life for similar weight but I'd be surprised if Apple adopted that early.

I would rather them double the weight of the phone. There is a market for a phone that lasts more than a day without charging. Gone are the days where I could take my blackberry and a spare battery for a week work trip. :(

What's the actual usage of it thou? people at my place don't make normal phone calls or emails anymore. Everything is via teams.. consistant accessing of auth apps for MFA to access systems.

This is the reason why I tend to carry a work iphone and personal phone around with me. We are on a two year cycle with our work phones as the batteries are pretty much duff by the end of the second year.

There has been further leaks of the iPhone Ultra (fold) and the sizing isn't like the dummies, it's not as short thankfully.

So I didn't use the 17 Pro Max from last year and I am glad I waited. Unless there is something strange or a negative too hard to overcome with the Ultra, I'm having one.

It is going to be TouchID and not FaceID, which is a downgrade for me.

Has it sold poorly?

As far as I'm aware there are no official sales numbers but speculation based on app usage data puts it around 6-7% of total sales in markets that matter. What is more telling is the larger than normal price cuts of around 20% to it at large 3rd party retailers. I do wonder if they thought it would sell better and have oversupply but ultimately it was overpriced. Especially when the base iPhone 17 is the best deal in the lineup.

If the fold comes this year I can't see them doing an Air 2 as well, that would be too many non-standard iPhones at once.. so maybe next year if it happens?

Ultimately the Air 2 really needs to have a bigger battery. Although the odds of Apple using higher density tech like Silicon Carbon seems unlikely, due to Apple's slow adoption of low volume fairly unproven tech it would certainly help.

My work phone is exclusively chat apps and MFA, it's an iPhone 13 and at least 4 years old. The battery health is at 90%.

Im still on my 14Pro. Battery sucks now.

Will be going for 18pro/max when it gets released. Not interest in the fold as it has no face ID. No thanks

Currently on 15plus, think I'll go to the 18 of some kind when released. Not massively fussed about the fold. I dropped into the apple ecosystem on a budget with a cheapo Apple Watch and the 15 plus and think im here to stay!

I think the fold will need another generation or two to iron out any kinks..no pun intended.
Would need some new glass/plastic tech to make this work. I think Corning have some bendy glass for their latest fibre optics cables so maybe that’s on the cards.

I think it depends how much work Apple have put in. The new foldables look like really solid products so if they can match those, it should be a solid product

Apple built its fortune and reputation on not necessarily being the first to market, but being the best when it finally did enter the fray.

While I have no interest in a foldable phone, I hope Apple continues this trend, and the new iFold is a genuinely good product.

Feels like the battery tech would need a big boost to make it worthwhile.. already feels like the battery on my 16 max fades away at a blink when gaming or watching videos. Double the screensize would be eye watering.

Touch ID is far superior to Face ID. Maybe my phone just doesn’t like my face, but I seem to constantly put in my pass code on my 15 pro. My MacBook Air Touch ID is glorious.

My USB port either needs another good clean out or is failing, so might be forced into an update. Bit of a shame as I really like my 15 pro. Wouldn’t get the Max as I can’t use it easily with one hand. Even the regular iPhones are slightly too big for true one hand operation. I’d like to wait for a bit as my last upgrade from XR to 15 pro felt incredible (still does after nearly 2 years!).

Have you tried one of those pop things for the back of the phone? I haven't, however my mate has one and he swears by it, I've ordered one which arrives tomorrow to make sure I aren't missing out on something.

I'm torn I want to hate it and send it back to Amazon but I fear I'll like it :km:
