PC Resets, only when I’m not using it!

Personally, if this remains true, that it only reboots with the LG C9, then I'd suspect either: the card's handling of power states. An issue with the grounding of the monitor, like the cable, or a surge protector.

The former can be tested by running something else (3D) in the background to hold the power state, like a low-demand game, the latter can sometimes be mitigated by using an adapter e.g. HDMI to DP.

So try running a game in window mode on the deskto leave it there and see if what happens? What low level 3d game/ app would you suggest, something like Candy Crush?

Bearing in mind I’m having no issues while using the machine or stressing all parts, not a single crash or reboot. Just idle issues resulting in a reboot. I suppose the idling in the bios is as stress less as you can get.

CPUs idle at higher voltages in the bios, that's why your pc can be stable in the bios but crashing idling on windows. The Bios is not good stress test

Yeah, but to test the graphics card power states on the LG specifically, you'd need to make sure it ups the power state with 3D. So, some games (especially in the browser, for example) may actually use software rendering.
 
Sooooo. I unplugged the HDMI from the PC and left it running all night. 8 hours later no reboots. Connected it again went away for 2 mins and a reboot. Talk about!!!

Hmm.

The last time I've seen this on the forum, it wasn't inside the PC, but a grounding issue between the monitor and the wall plug.

Using an adapter DP/HDMI fixed it temporarily, I guess because it adds an extra point of resistance.

I just remembered I have a spare 32inch Tv in the garage. I’m gonna hook it up to this and see if it repeats. I’m trying to rule out the GPU too as I can return it before May 5th.
 
I'm assuming you've gone through all the windows power settings?

I'm sure there is something I'm there that will switch off your pc if idle.
 
Wow, how odd. Glad you seem to have figured things out. Have you tried any alternative HDMI cables with the original TV? Or are you just going to stick with the TV from the garage?
 
I have not yet. I have it back in my LG C9 to see what happens. I might try HDMI to Display port cable if it reboots too. Defo not sticking with 32 inch 60hz 1080p TV lol

Ultimately it’s perfect when I’m doing what I want with it no reboots or crashes. I don’t normally leave my PC on idling away while I’m away for extended periods for nothing.

Like Tommy Cooper said when he went to the doctor “my arm hurts when I lift it.” So the Dr said “don’t lift it” lol.

Hmm, doing a search online does seem to find other people with similar sort of issues. But seeing different fixes for people, and most of the time it seems to be crashes/reboots while gaming, whereas your issue seems to be the opposite.

Is your TV an LG by any chance?

LGs are known for having weird signalling issues

I have a LG C9 and my PC freezes if the TV is on and I change the input for the TV to something else, for example I open Netflix on the TV or turn on my PS5, the PC instantly freezes and needs a restart. Frustratingly the issue only started two years ago and I've had the TV for 7 years, so something changed after 5 years of owning it, my guess is its either a windows update, NVIDIA driver or LG firmware that has caused it, I didn't do any hardware changes when the issue started

I'm currently planning to buy a new TV and leaning towards a Samsung because of this issue with LG TVs. I was going with the G6 but now thinking S95H

LG C9 had since 2019

What’s even stranger is if I leave the TV on where I can see the screen and let the PC sit idle it’s ok. But if I turn the TV off or switch inputs the PC reboots eventually. Can be 5 hours or 5 mins. Anyway like I said I’ll just use it and put it to sleep if I’m stepping away and need to keep it on instead of leaving it running normally.

I’m going to try the screen off option just to test next. Where you can turn the actual screen off but the TV still plays audio etc. It’s not like a fully turned off TV in this state.
