There is nothing to them, it's a basic heating element, surrounded by plastic, a cable and plug.

I bought one in Tesco I want to say £15 you can't even fit a slice of bread in it, like normal supermarket sized bread from a normal loaf, I mean wtf?

So I look and other toasters are £50+ for what?

Anyone got a decent toaster?

Yes, a Dualit with matching kettle.
Both were just shy of £200 iirc, and look super Gucci, but the toast is the same toast as any other toast, but done really quickly, and in style.

After trying cheaper toasters and kettles, I ended up going with a Dualit Architect set. The kettle is fantastic, the spout hasn’t limescaled like others, and the inside is just as clean. Toaster is good, but not sure if its really better than a cheaper one.

I agree with Budforce’s take on toasters, though. Irrespective of price, its like parking spaces and garages designed for 1970's cars. Why can’t toasters be designed for regular loaves from the shelf? They’re never deep enough, leaving half the slice sticking out so you have to flip it vertically, and crumpets get stuck. Regardless of price, they all seem to have this fundamental flaw or fail to toast properly.

stiill in the honeymoon period, but she's a keeper
'Cause when you cut the crusts off, have it with marmalade
Or butter, cheese, tomatoes, beans, banana
Or chocolate if you're strange, it doesn't really matter
Oh no, it all goes with toast
Just toast

I haven't shopped for a toaster for years. Do Dualit still do that thing where you pay £200 for a toaster and it doesn't even pop up automatically?

Kettles are similar, £50+ for a kettle ... It boils water FFS

The range normally have a reasonable selection of kitchen equipment, reasonable quality, reasonably priced, reasonable to stare at on the kitchen side, there no delonghi or Smeg but they toast toast and boil water

yep. I think I bought my Dualit toaster about 25 years ago. Had to replace the timer once which was a cheap and easy repair. At the time it probably cost about £80-90 so probably has depreciated at about £3 a year and still has all the style of a classic design.

I want AI controlled image sensing toasters. It must be possible now

Also obligatory Technology Connections video

I've got a crap toaster. Put bread in, flip it over because the whole slice doesn't fit, then turn it round because one side toasts better than the other. Wasn't cheap either.
If the British car industry had made toasters, this would be one of theirs.
How hard can it be.

Had a Sage toaster since 2023, it was something like £130.

Toasts quite even however the slots aren't big enough, its like the people making the toaster had a poor description of bread read to them over the phone.

The most unforgivable thing is for a premium product the case is silver painted plastic, which scratches.

Will be buying a Dualit next time.
