007 First Light

I caved and picked it up as its £45 on CDkeys as reviews were all pretty positive, played about 4hrs.

Its fun, limited options I think vs Hitman but it keeps the flow going. Not a fan of the melee combat with hitting the right key at the right time but i never am. Runs pretty well and looks great, even playable on the steamdeck

Only played the opening section and intro last night, so far too early to form an overall picture which judging from the reviews should do what it says on the tin. Nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, but solid stuff on a well-trodden path would be my prediction. Intro tutorial is as formulaic as can be, but it's that necessary initial hurdle that needs to be included in such a game, just that same robotic formula we've all been through. Performance is fine at max detail, with a smooth fluid feel and while it's not the most graphically complex out there, it's more than acceptable - but obviously I've only seen a minute section of the game. Had a quick look at the FG options, bit did notice some small corruption evident on wide landscape scenes when using the dynamic option, but need to spend some more time there tinkering. Cut scene issues on UW as already highlighted which would be nice if they addressed officially as opposed to the alternative, but at least that option is out there.

Modded MFG works btw too, x6 available on RTX 40 series. ON my 4090 using anything above 4x at 4K output results in a lower baseline fps, around 40fps base at 6x MFG - This is less efficient than DLSS MFG obviously as the mod uses FSR 4.1's MFG system, but 4x works more than fine with only a slight panning motion judder to game world highlights if you are sensitive to such things.

Dynamic is available too. No other obvious artefacting in the limited testing I did before dropping back to DLSS FG 2x which is perfect and gets over 200fps if fps is uncapped on a 4090.

For me in this game, 100fps cap + Ultra everything + 4K DLSS Balanced with 2x FG = Quiet running 4090 so can game peacefully

Which leaves lots of headroom for path tracing using DLSS Performance.

Out of interest how much vram is being used?
I can’t seem to get mine above 8, which seems a little low, or maybe I’m just expecting too much from the game graphics wise.

I'm sensitive to input latency and do feel it a bit more with 2X frame gen on, it's very low though. Fortunately no need for FG at 1440p for me anyway.

Yeah it's mostly been around 8GB for me too, but in one area a few hours in I've seen it go to 9GB+.

Why would you want a game to use more vram, it should only use as much as necessary to output the intended graphics and no more

Watched some footage last night (streamers got early access shocker) and I was pleasantly surprised by it, will be picking it up at some point for a 'one and done' type action game.

Few little bugs and glitches but nothing game breaking.

I didn’t say I did, I’m just a bit surprised it’s as low as it is with the settings I’m using.

I think a reason for the modest (or optimal) vram usage is the environments aren't too complex in terms of polygonal/model detail.

That’s for sure.
I’ve only done the first mission and a bit of training so hopefully it’ll get better further in.

@Ayahuasca

He will NEVER use MFG
Someone has to beta test these things :p

I did a video giving an overview of the techie kind which shows you the VRAM use etc too across various MFG modes etc:

Chaptered accordingly incase it gets a bit boring lol.
