Meat delivery

I ordered a rack of extra meaty pork ribs from Truebites.co.uk

3.8kg of goodness ready for a slow smoke on Sunday...

Very impressed with their service, meat looks good. Will report back with how it went down next week...
10/10 for true bites.
Absolutely epic rack of ribs.

Last time I got some meat delivered I gave https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/ a chance and was not disappointed in the slightest, everything we got was a 'treat to eat' even down to the basics like sausage rolls.

You do have to wait a few week for delivery unless they've sped that up, ordered and had to wait around 3 week for the next slot (you pick them at checkout so you know the day you'll get it delivered by DPD)

Burgers were spot on even the cheaper ones but the angus are worth paying that little bit extra for.

Im old enough when there was near riots when the price of New Zealand Lamb went up and for a whole leg would cost £5. Packs of Ribs for a few quid and pork belly, oh how I used to love pork belly before it became trendy. Used to get that by the ton lol. They used to give bones away at the butchers when you were making stock, you have to pay through the nose now....
yeah they did a good promo job on ribs which you could literally get for nothing now they charge you a fortune lol.

meat prices are silly. we used to have pigs for eg they still not that expensive 60 to 75 quid a piglet. rib prices are insane for what they are.
Ribs and cuts like it have become fashionable, nobody wanted them years ago so it was dirt cheap, now demand is up and so is price.

Sherwood Foods I've used quite a bit, they do some monster ribs, cowboy steaks, a lot of BBQ stuff.

I am going to veto this for now :p

I orderd £100 worth of extra meaty ribs and chicken drumsticks. Delivery was due yesterday but received an email saying it was delayed as DPD didn't collect all the parcels as they were supposed to? Seems odd but fine, email states won't affect the quality.

Just received my package, not happy. Ribs defrosted at one end then frozen at the other, drumsticks even worse, some fully defrosted, others fully frozen. Packaging for the chicken has those little circular ventilation holes on the bags.....so chicken juice all over the place. Have emailed them to see their solution, honestly if it's not a full refund a very negative review will be going up. The meat was actually for a start up cooking business I am doing and I wouldn't feel comfortable with the chicken especially.

Best chicken I've ever had and they're massive breasts.

Can't beat massive succulent breasts. Seriously tasty.

Give true bites a try for ribs

Is anyone finding a lot of chicken breast these days have a really chewy texture when cooked? Its honestly like chewing raw chicken. Makes me gag and dinners ruined. Ypu can feel its gou g to be like it when cutting it up too.

Just to update my previous post. Sherwoods were good, guy on the phone apologised but was also very explanatory about the partly defrosted part which I completely understand, the meat is still colder than on a supermarket shelves.

My main issue was the holes in the bags of chicken and the resulting juices. He said to me 'Send another email with the amount you want refunded', I just asked for refunding on the chicken as the ribs whilst not fully frozen are completely safe and not pierced. Don't want to take the mick as the ribs are completely edible as I am sure the chicken is but don't trust that as much. Generally tried to be as helpful as possible so I would maybe order again as the ribs especially are great value but have yet to BBQ a pack to test the quality!

Colder than shelves but still not frozen as a expected? I'm surprised they didn't offer a full refund, I suspect you aren't the first to experience that issue

Thanks. It does seem to be the bigger breadth that suffer from it
Yes! Thank you! Not just me then. I've all but given up on chicken recently. At best I'll go for Morrisons "Mini breasts" - not usually how I like 'em but beggars can't be choosers.
It does seem to be something that they don't want going into the breasts sold in most places but it's definitely out there.

The best thing you can do is train yourself on how to spot it. Then you can always pick something else off the shelf. The stringy lines and abundance of blood cells are easy enough to spot when you're looking from a distance.

I have bought some that looked fine but upon prep/cooking it's apparent that it's not quite right. You can't always spot it from the outside, unfortunately!

Yea there is a skill to it

Same for picking a good steak as well I always go through the packets to try and find a good one.

There has also been times when I've looked through and not seen any decent ones and given it a miss for something else.
