people forgot what happened just before the ram and ssd rise. basically they was the cheapest they had EVER been. DDR4 for 16 gig was as low as 25 new for some stuff 1tb ssds were like 35 quid. they couldnt give them away ! then all of a sudden there is a shortage LOL. its just people taking the pee and just drip feeding us all using AI as the excuse to do it.

I bought my Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB Grey (2x32GB) 6000MTs CL30 for about £260; even if there was no profiting rule still in place, there would be no way in hell I would be selling it for less than £700 in this climate. It's £900 new on here and £1k+ anywhere else, and it's out of stock here anyway. Even at that insane price, my price is still less than new.

I think my timing of buying RAM for AM5 was impeccable. I bought some 2x16Gb 6000 CL28 modules in the middle of October 2025 for £106. Within a week, The price had doubled and is now sitting at £440 for the same kit.

My kids school have launched an upgrade our tech fundraiser and I'm close to telling them not to bother - the money would be much better spent elsewhere - much better to cannibalise a few machines to make a few more better right?
 
Getting crazy now. There is DDR4 ram from pre-2020 selling for as much as it was new on the used market. Still a lot of demand for it too.

I've managed to secure some Jedec Hynix green sticks (2x8Gb sticks) for £100, watching some feedback YT clips and discussing with another member on here, we reckon it could be possible to get them in a semi decent state with a bit of voltage and some tuning.

I'd be asking for receipts, I deal with some schools and the amount of money they spend with suppliers who rip them off normally is unreal, can't imagine it'll be any better in this climate at all.
I just donated a load of old kit to a local primary school as they were desperate, loads of 6th to 8th Gen Intel HP and Dell SSF's and some laptops - I refurbed them all to as close to new as possible as well, the deputy head actually cried when we dropped them off. Was quite sad really just how poor some schools and students are.

I've tried to do the same for new startup businesses in my area by getting laptops my work are looking to scrap.
Unfortunately the VP has never signed off for their release and in the skip they go. I was quite disappointed by that.

there is deals about seen 32gb of ddr4 today for 130 new. just gotta pull the pin when the deals are about.

I found 64gb used Samsung sticks for 160. Overclocked then to 3200mhz with half decent timings. I wanted to avoid running 4 sticks at it can be an issue
 
I just had to start an RMA process for a DDR5 kit, 6000mhz, cl30. If Corsair just refund me £90, I will be ******.

This is the first memory kit I've ever had fail in 20+ years of building/upgrading computers. Is DDR5 less reliable?

They have history. I read recently that they offered a refund of the purchase price instead of a replacement in exactly this situation.
