Yeah I read your story the other week - quite helpful although very annoying for you!
That's a good point. It'll only be me and the Mrs, but she may start to get cranky if I'm hunting all over for a charger while on holiday.
Central Bedfordshire/North Herts area. It's the driving around the Lakes that's added it up to 900 miles. Places seem far from each other in comparison to within the Peak District. Admittedly we are going 'all out' for this holiday - pretty much exploring most of the park.
I'm thinking about getting a hw4 pre juniper 2024 plate model y LR AWD in September. I generally hold on to my cars for several years so thinking I will buy outright for around £25k ish. Whilst I like the juniper and can see the improvements are nice I couldn't justify dropping another 15-20k down on a car outright. Anyone rocking the model y pre juniper and loving it? I did briefly consider pcp and pch but neither seem to make sense financially to me. Anyone else gone the same route or thought the same but didn't buy outright?
Most of us Y owners are rocking the original.

As an FYI - All pre-juniper come with autopilot hardware 3 and AMD ryzen based infotainment.
I’m in year 3 of a 4 year lease so I can’t say much on the ownership side. If I’m buying used today, it would be on the list.
That said, you don’t have to spend much more money (~£30k) to get into a Polestar 4 which is a nicer car and that would probably be where my cash went. It would almost certainly be where it went if I was spending Juniper money.

I’ve only ever been a passenger in both the old and new Model Y as well as a Model 3 Highland. The Juniper and Highland are much improved for comfort.
I prefer a stiffer sporty suspension but found the Model Y and even Model 3 more jittery than sporty. When I test drove a Model 3 back in 2022 it just felt jittery and had inconsistent steering.
Edit: AI sums up the difference between a well tuned sporty suspension and an uncomfortable jittery suspension reasonably well.

- Uncomfortable Ride: Causes a constant, high-frequency vibration, shudder, or small-scale bouncing that fatigues passengers.
- Poor Harmony: Happens when dampers and springs do not match the road surface, or when components become overly stiff.

I think if it were me I'd pick up an older, but still in warranty car with higher miles on it. Something similar to this. Hang on to that for a couple of years and bump the £7k to one side in savings, then if you really like the Y get a Juniper after 2 years or so, they'll have dropped a lot by the and you'll have probably lost less that £7k on the original one.

I picked up a 2023 Model Y Registered May so has the revised suspension, for me the rides and comfort is fine. I paid 21K for it in Grey. If it helps I was coming from Seat Leon Fr 67 plate, now that was a firm ride and a lot of road noise!

When I go home to Penzance in the far west of Cornwall I have a 1440 mile round trip. Never done it in the Leaf and will never attempt it as 7+ charges each way using expensive public charging points do not appeal to me.

I picked up a December 2023 RWD Model Y recently for £21k. Had approx 31k miles on the clock.
Had a budget and was after the latest reg as wanted at least 12 months base vehicle warranty (have 18 months now) and 5 years for the battery.
I came from a BMW X3 m40i, so suspension feels similar to be honest.
Overall, really loving the switch to EV. Definitely a drop in cabin build quality but I can live with it, especially for the saving in running costs. The latter is the primary driver as we want to be mortgage free in next 5 years. I sold the BMW for significantly more than the Tesla, so it paid off a massive chunk of the loan I had for the BMW.
No range anxiety so far. I’m getting 260 miles range out of it which combined with home charging, is absolutely fine.

Mate we were all a bit thick at some point in our lives, don't beat yourself up about it.
We did generally do a better job of hiding it tho.

there are loads of options for small EVs now and unlike the past even the range is not terrible so long as you don't plan on doing a full on country jaunt.
if she likes the 500 then theb500e is an obvious choice but there is the inster, the new honda, pug E-208, the Micra or my personal favourite the Renault 5.
even some older cars which are now way more affordable have an ok range. the BMW i3 is a fun small car (we have one, the middle sized battery but the largest battery one is the one to get now... for me in would get the standard not the S trim but it depends if the extra 15 miles range matters Vs some better performance and nicer wheels ) or even the Zoe with bigger battery has some proper good range.

Not that it helps with the other 1200 miles of the journey, but I have family in Trewellard and for this years visit the addition of Ionity chargers in Bodmin really helped - meant I could hit Cullompton then skip Exeter direct to Bodmin then make it to destination
Probably not. I think someone here was planning a 1k mile trip and yeah after some man maths it wasn't worth it
