Mortal Shell II

Agreed, I've played and enjoyed far harder Souls like games. This seems very accessible with a good variety of combat options that make for a very entertaining play style without leaning heavily on difficulty like some other titles.

An enjoyable experience without it getting boring, or flooded with hand holding. Just go out and smack stuff with your weapon, or the gun item. They both work very well together when tackling enemies.

I've found it easier than many souls games, the 2 lives nature of the shells, combined with the ranged attacks and a very generous parry/block window has made it feel easier to me. Though there are ingame items which allow you to increase or decrease the difficulty as well

Exactly my thoughts. Makes it more fun. I could never play Elden Ring for instance without using a strong summon and or ranged attacks or OP magic builds. This is a lot more fun.

Im really interested in some of the different shells. I really like the look of the one that can do lighting damage and the one that sends out clones of herself to attack.

That sounds more appealing than difficulty for its own sake. Having options to tune the challenge makes it far easier to stick with.

Awww, I was looking at this and all your comments about how easy it is have put me off. :D

Elden Ring was too easy as it is.

Currently playing Khazan on and off and I'm a bit uninterested because it's not punishing me enough either.

I just want to be punished. :(

Maybe I'm just getting too used to these games.

Easily solved, switch the game into Night Mode, that ups the difficulty by quite a lot :)

Bad time to mention they've just released a patch to make the game easier? :p

Balance Patch 1

Official News

Devout Fans,

Thanks for being amongst the first to join us at the very start of the adventure for Mortal Shell II. We’re seeing your bug reports and gameplay suggestions, and will be rolling out regular updates to both modify existing content and add new features.

While we have a bigger patch in the works, which has to be thoroughly tested, we’d like to make a rapid balance & crash fix patch to bring the experience more in line with the game’s open beta and our own vision for MS2.

Planned future updates will see extensions to popular game features such as Night Mode, Tarstones, PP Items, and more.

For now, we hope you’re enjoying the game and read on for details on Balance Patch 1.

Balance Patch 1 (PC) - The patch below is live on PC and coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series shortly.

Economy

-Shell map locations now cost Gloom, and we’re refunding any glimpses spent on shell maps. Refunded Glimpses are found in the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow. “Finding your favorite shell shouldn’t cost you the ability to bond with them.”

-Gold drops from enemies have been significantly increased. Notably, enemies in Mammon now drop double the gold. “This brings the gold economy more in line with the weapon crafting item discovery.”

-Smelting a weapon at the Tarforge costs 75% less gloom. “Our goal with the smelt capability was to enable switching weapons without the need to spend hours grinding through NG+ runs, but the Gloom costs were set exorbitantly high.”

Enemies & Bosses

All enemies featured in the beta were restored to their beta hp values, except the Caerinid (Spider) in Magdelena’s area, which we wanted to retain its role as a threatening enemy which doesn’t respawn once defeated.

Bosses

The Lost Child
- Base Damage: (-10%)
- Max Health: (-15%)

Monolith
- Base Damage: (-19%)
- Max Health: (-10%)
- Some Monolith Attacks were retimed to be more fair, as well.

Enemies

Cultist (mace)
Max Health: (-21.1%)

Caerinid Spider
Max Health: (-33.3%)

Infested Stalker
- Max Health: (-52.4%)

Rusted Knave (Halberd)
- Max Health: (-20.8%)
- Fixed hit detection for overhead strike.

Weapons

-Great Martyr’s Blade Attack Damage +20%
-Troubador’s Lute Attack Damage +100%
-Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater no longer have minimum resolve requirements to fire.
-Improved tracking for Axatana, Black Needle, and Clockwork Scythe light attacks.

Seals

Guard can now be used while walking.

Tarstones

Parasitic Stone Buffed
Grudge Stone Buffed
Bulwark Stone Damage Reduction Increased Significantly

Based on the beta it is a yay for me as well. I liked Wuchang Fallen Feathers, liked Lies of P, kind of liked Lords of the Fallen, liked Stellar Blade and liked Bloodborne.
I plan to purchase the full game, but will wait for some patches and first need to clear my backlog a bit. Also, there is Phantom Blade releasing soon and I want to focus on that assuming it is good of course.

Its alright, the boss fights aren't great, and the open overworld and dungeons all feel very generic. I think it suffers a lot from going with an open world rather than focusing on making a more tightly crafted experience, and it would have a lot more atmosphere if it actually had a soundtrack. Don't bother sharing an opinion on the subreddit that doesn't glaze it completely, or you will be downvoted into oblivion.

What didn't you like about Sekiro?

The combat, graphics and movement are all excellent. Its impressive for a small company IMO.

Yea it's impressive for a small company, but I still think a lot of the bosses are poorly designed and as said think with their limited resources they would have done better limiting the scope and not opting for an open world that is mostly fairly bland, repetitive and uninteresting. The first game while worse on a technical level, felt a lot more unique and had more atmosphere due to the art direction and design.
