DLSS 5 preview

The director of Kingdom Come Deliverance 1+2 loves it and said it's far closer to the artists intent, Just needs tweaking slightly to reduce the yass queen factor. Seen similar comments by devs from other studios too.
He's not the director of a game, nor a "dev", he's a retired, heavily drinking artist who wrote Mafia 1 game and who was a creative director (not an engineer, programmer etc.) of KCD. And he likes it IN KCD specifically, as he said their engine sucked and even though artists put all those details in, the game engine couldn't display them. DLSS 5 pulls it out - but it was already there, in those models. With regards to other games, he said very clearly - it depends on what information they contain and uncanny valley is worse than not having it. Ergo, it's better to read the whole thing and not just jump on a single sentence you like the sound of, to understand what they person is actually saying.

I don't get it.

What happened to "it's not the intended artistic intent"?

"AI slop"?

Usual double standards with some gamers, the ficklest of creatures. Like how certain review outlets don't matter but then are posted as a source when it supports a game someone is interested in lol. Then again, it could be an acknowledgement that this is a vast improvement from the overused "ai slop" that gets bandied about everywhere, minds are allowed to change.

Nothing has changed in that regard. It is still a filter, trained on a set of images with inherent benefits and detriments contained therein.

All the objections are still valid, but the technology is unavoidable.

It certainly adds to an image, it looks different, and affects the final output oddly at times. Is it better? sometimes yes, sometimes no.
Would I prefer better game engine and rendering technologies instead of an AI trained filter, 100% yes.
Do people like looking at filters/post processed/AI images. Yes.

Yeah, these look exactly like the soft of AI generated images that you find on social media, that same weird exaggerated detail and cartoonish plastic quality about them.

i'm not being facetious, that is exactly what they look like to me.

Anyone else getting sick of the word "slop" being used?
It's ******* everywhere. I mean I get it and I quite liked it when it first appeared, but it really bothers me when certain words enter the zeitgeist and just get pounded. Even my grandma is probably saying it, and she's been dead for 30 years.

I think Slop is a good word general public use AI.

I'll give you an example, Youtube is filled with what on the face of it look like interesting documentaries, until you watch them, the voice narration sounds normal for about the first 2 minutes, like a real person narrating, until it gets to something that requires human thinking in narrating the script, that's when the AI narrator develops a very obvious and very wired speech impediment.

To fill out the video length the AI narrator says a lot without saying anything at all, throughout the whole video it says a lot without saying anything and often repeating the same nothing in many different ways.

On top of that imagery in the video has absolutely nothing to do with the subject, its just random internet imagery, sometimes obviously AI generated.

This is "Slop"

No this is YouTube.. / Socials... except AI are quicker at generating the "slop"..

I watch Youtube like i used to watch TV, i'm Gen X.

The fact is Youtube used to have very good and genuinely entertaining videos, and interesting documentaries made by real people and made very well, better than anything i'm used to seeing on broadcast TV.

I have more than noticed the shift from that to slop over the last few years, and its obvious to me that Youtube is trying to push the slop over what i usually watch, more and more i'm having to rely on things i have in my subscribed channel list than what Youtube puts on my feed.
