I'm going to be adding a 5800X3D to my B450 board, the current air cooler will have to go.

I've never done liquid cooling before, but I see that I can get an Arctic Liquid Freezer III 240mm for about £55. That price will buy me a lower end air cooler, such as the Be Quiet Pure Rock 3 or a Cooler Master Hyper 212, I don't think I will have room for a dual fan equivalent.

So the air cooler will be cheaper but I'm assuming the AIO will do a better job of cooling - is that correct?

What is your current cooler, are you using an old AMD stock HSF or something?

While the 5800X3D does inherently run warm, it doesn't necessarily need an extreme cooling solution. I ran one just fine for awhile on a £15 Thermalright Assassin King 120SE, which is a single tower five heatpipe design.

That was alongside a - 30 offset, which can help a fair bit.

What case are you using exactly?

My current HSF is not stock but not far off, it is the uprated stock, an AMD Wraith Max, which claims to support TDPs up to 105, so the 5800X3D with a TDP of 105 is right up at the limit. So, I am expecting to change the cooling solution.

The case is an old midi tower that will support a top mounted 240mm AIO radiator.

Air cooler that is a top performane can be had for £30 as an alternative.

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE

yeah certainly not a lower end air cooler for £55
any tamzzy said
or if it fits thermalright royal pretor is under £40
anything thermalright is great performance for great price
owning your own factories and tooling really cuts costs

just wish they had spelled it properly
as in praetor though

I must be doing something wrong... I had an assassin king, which with my 5950x was getting a bit toasty, but still within spec. Replaced with a Phantom Spirit, it's a bit cooler, but a lot louder, so much so that I'm not sure it was actually an upgrade or I would have been better just strapping another fan on the back (although part of it may be that the front fan is riding about an inch high as it doesn't clear my RAM - which means it also won't clear my side panel)

Either way, I'd expect that a 240mm AIO should be plenty, the only downside being more moving parts = higher chance of failure (but my first gen H50 lasted 5+ years as a main and a few more on other systems... it may still be working now for all I know)

Yeh it's amazing for the price range and their customer support is top notch.
