EV general discussion

It’s a generic part, chill. Was this a freebie as part of warranty out of interest.

I’ve woken the force . In other news I fillies my washer fluid. It was very nice and easy.

“JFC” danger mouse kept you up last night?

Finally got IOG setup at the new house. Many emails back and forth, mainly about getting tariffs to attach to my property properly, setitng up the mini octopus device quite a number of times (they don't tell you on the moving home that you have to manually inform them and ask them to reset their database so it can associate with a new smart meter), wouldn't play ball for nearly 2 months. Then having a final attempt today i wondered if the old in home display that the previous home owner had left may be an issue, turns out it was! It was holding onto the smart meter connection and not allowing the mini octopus device to connect, all now set up and working.

Have connected to my Ohme (decided against the direct car integration for BMW and Renault through Octopus, was never keen on it previsouly) so just forced IOG to connect to the charger instead and will control charging through the Ohme app.

Also good that i got my old bill sorted, i had given a reading from my last property correctly, the lad who moved in then gave his starting meter reading that was 3500kw higher than mine! Turns out he had used the A+ total power meter reading rather than the correct Rate 1 meter reading. They'd emptied my account of £800+ until i spotted that!

So off to France for a week in the EV6. Any advice on chargers? At home 99% is at home with the Electroverse network doing the rest.

Any tips for France? Going through the tunnel and then heading towards Le Havre, so any recommended charging points near Calais?

Buy the Tesla supercharger subscription.

Also, prices in France are not as extortionate compared to here in Blighty.

As usual, the ABC rule applies (always be charging) as @Journey likes to say.

The chargers closest to the ports are likely to be full and will have a wait time, so make sure you have a buffer.

I wouldn’t bother with Tesla unless you just happen to land at one, they are mostly off the motorway. Plus the EV6 is 800v so charges pretty slow on a supercharger.

You’ll find Total, Ionity and Fastned at the airs, prices are generally lower than the U.K. a lot of public car parks and hotels have chargers now. You’ll be fine.

Charge at the runner terminal if you can although they can get busy, particularly in the mornings. If you are early, there is Ionity and Tesla outside of the terminal which are far less busy.

Tunnel lounge area has some chargers for top up before you get on.

Charging is super easy in France and many supermarkets have ultra rapid charging, that's where I tended to do most while I was there. Should be a few Ionity options between Calais and Le Havre if you need en route.

This is great stuff, thanks. We're hoping to drive to my mum's in Holland for Christmas if the Model 3 arrives on time so these comments are very helpful. Cheers chaps :D

I used my Smart charging card for the first time the other day. There are 8 new MFG Charging Station EV chargers about 5 minutes way. They are 300 kW so slightly under the 400 kW the car can do - but still decent. It cost me £17 for 10 minute charge which gave me I think 15-20%. A very stress free experience, and lovely wide bays. My bro messaged me to say it cost him nearly £80 to fill his BMW up the other day. lol.

Yeah between the Tesla sub and ionity sub you should be pretty much covered (and cheapest).
On the Tesla forum, some peeps have done a 1400 mile road trip across the continent and only paid £115 in recharging costs.

If you think about it, would have cost you the same £80 at MFG for your car lol.

Think I’m going to get a 2022/23 Kia Niro EV to replace it with. I’ve looked at everything from ID.3 to Honda E and e:Ny1 to Mazda MX-30, but the Niro ticks every box. The only downside is that it’s fairly pricey.

I'll never learn. I can't stop thinking about replacing the Highland Model 3 that I just sold..........with another Model 3. FFS.

They're just such amazing EVs. Every time I look at the Niro I wonder if I can live with the compromises like worse pedal calibration, software, no heat pump, crap audio system and app etc. The big downside of the Model 3 is that the body shape is inferior in terms of practicality, and the space in the rear isn't as good as the Niro.

It's easy to find a 2022 Model 3 RWD for <£19k without moon mileage, whereas <£19k is scraping the bottom of the barrel for the Niro EV 4. The Niro would have warranty though which is comforting.

We have a 2022 Model Y Long Range AWD which I've put 64k miles on, and I've put 10k on 2 x Model 3s so it's a platform I'm extremely familiar with now. Despite the flaws, I just love them.

There's solely 2 things that put me off the Tesla's as the 'go-to' EV. The lack of driver display & buttons (despite everyone saying wah wah it's a none issue, it is an issue, especially with no HUD)
and the way they look. I think they are ugly as ****
