Hi all,

Mrs Bob and I are off on our first ever cruise to the Med next month and were wondering if there are any essentials to pack/things to do to make our time onboard better.

Ta.

as a first time cruise go-er how did you decide on that cruise ? Was they anything you found our during the process that you didn't know at the start that you wish you did? What type of options did you go for. A cruise in the med in November, will it be warm enough ? despite watching many videos and hearing about it, I still don't get cruises, and I can't see my self on one, but I'm trying to keep open minded. I see it more as 'trapped on a floating shopping centre/butlins' and just can't understand why I would do that to myself.

We're actually going with the Mother-in-law for her 80th birthday so that's how the decision was made. I'm quite unsure if I will like the experience, hence the post.

I won’t merge them but this thread might be useful for you.

Who are you cruising with, and what itinerary?

Without details it's like asking "I'm getting a car next month, what should I buy?"

Check out the Tips For Travellers and Emma Cruises channels on YouTube.

Who is your cruise operators? I am assuming that its not P&O as i believe they will be starting to move out to the Caribbean soon (Think my mum is on the last one to the canaries before relocating)...

It should be warm, is in the med then depending where you are going. However the trip down there and back is going to be fun with the bay of Biscay and the west coast of Spain/Portugal.

I would say just relax, do what you want and eat what you want. On some of the bigger ships you get some good activities, cinemas etc while you are at sea then you get off and do stuff at ports and experience a small slice of where you are going then get back on ship and on to the next place.

Buy some ducks from amazon (Or do like i do and 3d print them) and watch little kids face light up when they find one. I had a little girl on a table in the MDR that was clearly not having fun at breakfast when a duck magically appeared on their table.. WOW what a change, probably only a few mins, but it made out breakfast quieter..

We went on our first cruise this year (and really enjoyed it!) as others have mentioned search out the numerous Youtube videos that are out there, there is bound to be a ton on the actual ship you are going on unless its a super obscure line.

A decent multi USB outlet is my main recommendation, no plug extensions or surge protectors! Saw plenty on the naughty table that had been confiscated on departure :P

I'm on a med cruise right now.

We've had some very big downpours which we've missed by Hours.
La Palma got really wet :p
Rome huge showers.
Ship got struck by lightning twice which was awesome.
Its a Marella cruise (TUI) so it's tiny, old and very British.
What ship are you going on?

Don't forget sunglasses and an umbrella.
Decent plug extension lead is a solid tip. Depending on your cabin you have really limited power outlet positioning.

I dunno how old you are but the average clients on ship this are "older"

40mph wind here now balcony open it's like a hurricane coming in lol I love it

Don't bring plastic ducks on this cruise line they actively state it's just landfill junk in the ocean lol. Killjoys.

For afters today I had chocolate mousse and saw some nice ham on the way back so that too.

I feel like a Marella pro now so if you're with them ask away :p

Just go back from a Marella cruise on Saturday - no rain thankfully. Which ship are you on?

Lol
Same ship I was on, do you have Captain Alan?

Captain Ricky Gervais..
Yeah we do. I won't say anything incase you think he was hilarious :p

Saw him do questions with cruise director. What a **** lol.
Then meet the senior crew was just as weirdly dismissive and patronising.

We were on explorer 2 that captain was funny but with authority.

Well several ships have been pulled to Southampton because of an incoming storm. Arvia, Iona(On its way apparently), MSC Virtuosa and MSC Preziosa. 70-80mile hour winds expected.
