Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I mean, people complained about having actual UK staff who knew the systems inside out with decades of experience, so they made them redundant, and outsourced the roles to a generic UK providers and off-shore contractors, and then people didn't like that. Now they've seemingly moved the frontline to AI, cutting the wage bill still further and seemingly recently slashed the price of Gig1 and automated the retention process to the account portal, and still people aren't happy. The unfortunate reality is regardless of the industry, UK based staff cost UK wages, and in order to be competitive, the easiest option is to cut head count and get AI to do the frontline work. Makes me glad to be a spectator at this point, as call centre work is carnage at this stage, just like entry level programming and data/reporting/analysis roles.

Another renewal dance
Quoted £168 per month

A better package on the website, is £126.99 a month... including a SIM card

Is it realistic I can get that new customer price?

Cool. Will they need to come and refit the kit?
Guessing I can just put it in another persons name in the house?
Probably, you'll be without service for a day usually.

Whoever it is must pass their ridiculous hard credit search. You might find however that once you cancel those deals will magically be offered. Have you logged in to your account to see what's on offer?

Can't even log into my account - it's blocked. Really annoying

Well, that was easier than I thought. Put through to retentions on the WhatsApp live chat, and got a price of £124pm, which is pretty much bang on the money.

I have 1gig only.

Renewal at 45 a month.

Through to retentions and said I want it at the new customer offer or a few quid near it, and I know a manager can apply a discount to bring it down to that.

5 minutes later, job done, £35 a month.

Did you happen to check the terms of the "new" contract they sent you? I noticed that ours now says that we have 18 months left to run when our deal actually expires next month  I spoke to them about it on live chat & apparently it'll magically correct itself on their system in a month or so but I'm not convinced.
They really are ******* useless. Despite a 70 minute phone call a few days after this post where I was reassured that any early termination charges would be waived, I have today received a bill for £1,100!

All calls are recorded, or should be recorded and notes written into your account about the conversation that was had..

We had them bang to rights as we had the transcript of an agent on live chat confirming that our offer period hadn't changed.

They called and spoke to my Mrs today, confirming that the charges will be cancelled, and followed that up with an email. What they've said is the biggest load of waffle I've ever heard and they haven't responded to any of the points we raised:

We understand that you received an EDF charge that you had been advised you would not incur when switching providers using the One Touch Switch process.

Following our investigation, we identified an error on our system which prevented the One Touch Switch from completing correctly. As a result, the charge was not transferred to your new broadband provider as intended.

To resolve this matter, we have now cleared the outstanding balance relating to the EDF charge that should have been passed directly to your new provider.
Why would Sky have to pay them £1,100!? Suffice to say I won't ever be using them again if you'd paid me.

We’ve noticed that your WiFi connection at home could do with a boost, so how about we send you our latest WiFi Hub at no extra cost?

I have a superhub 3 and they're sending me superhub 5 or 6 whatever the latest is, for free. Pretty cool. I recently posted in this forum that I was having problems with WiFi at the far end of my home using a TP Link RE200 extender. So I just bought a better extender on ebay, a used TP Link RE705X WiFi 6. I haven't tried it yet as right now my WiFi is working fine around my home but I know at some point it'll mess around. The new superhub and new extender should pretty much guarantee solid WiFi everywhere.

I got the Hub5 a few years ago and never used the WiFi on it. But it is a more powerful Router/Modem so able to handle errors better. Modem mode + Cap ax/Hap ax^2 works for me. I don't think one AP/Router with wired back-haul even for a small house is good enough in 2026. I can't get onboard with all the mesh nonsense either. I think there is a reason why VM send pods out with gigabit connections.
But I could be wrong! :D
