General Headphone Audio

The Aune AR3000 is $249. I personally love their products. I have the SR 7000 which is my closed back. So I am expecting it to be £249 LOL.

I have replied to the DMP-K8 Pro saying yes I will check it out but also said I'm more interested in the DAC-K7 as it's more appealing generally. The headphones output power isn't a concern as it's clear that lower wattage can still drive headphones loud and properly. Was just curious to see a lower figure from something that has a proper power supply and internal componentry otherwise.

It's £199 in the UK, you can grab a pre-order over at EdenAudio.

Looks like a very interesting headphone for the price but beware, Resolve from Headphone Show is imo a bit of a bass head (possibly HRTF related), for reference he really rates the bass on the FiiO FT1 but for me personally I find it too much, makes for a great gaming/movie headphone though.

True but Listener rates it the highest out of the 3 of them which is unusual!

"Guys this new headphones is incredible and we just so happen to have secured all the north American supply to sell to you"

Something something conflict of interest

Well, seeing I am holding off until at least the new year before any new gear. Got a busy couple of months ahead, and that doesn't even include GTA6 and Ocarina of Time !

I will wait for Amazon, really not in a hurry for new headphones or any audio gear atm. I want to enjoy listening to some CDs this week!

Mastering > Container.

This is so important, I was chilling with some DSD music today, sounded amazing, thought I'd preview some other DSD albums off NativeDSD's website, streaming right from the website using the preview album feature it also sounded amazing even though it uses "low res MP3s in Stereo" for preview streaming, the thing was I was listening to albums that were really well mastered/recorded, a nice reminder of what takes priority really.

This goes back to the Spotify thread about lossless vs compressed quality, at that time I compared Tidal/Qobuz/Spotify and spent about a week on it with Spotify set to Very High (lossless wasn’t out then). For albums where I could confirm they came from the same master, everything sounded alike, whether it was up to 192kHz lossless on Qobuz/Tidal or Very High on Spotify which is 320kbps Ogg.

It’s also worth noting that CD’s 44.1kHz sample rate already covers frequencies up to 22.05kHz, which is beyond what adult ears can hear. Spotify Lossless caps at 24bit/44.1kHz, which makes sense on that basis.

As long as the mp3 isn’t a rubbish encode, the same applies. A LAME encode at around ~190kbps VBR (-v2 now or the old --alt-preset for those of us who used command line rip tools in the early 2000s) was/is transparent enough for serious listening compared with lossless from the same master. Ogg Vorbis at 160kbps is also transparent.

Probably explains why many YouTube music videos also sound so good, since it uses Ogg for all audio in videos.

I have the vast majority of my collection in FLAC yet some of the albums can sound like ass, just poorly mastered with crushed dynamic range and no format or bitrate will ever fix that.

May tickle a few around the net but logically there is some sense here :D

I half agree, a small amount of wideband EQ like adding a bass shelf or pulling back some aggressive treble will be a net benefit.
But pushing things too far or going into having 32 bands of changes for every little spike or dip as the headphones.com guys seem to be pushing I think is pointless like this guy is saying, every time you move your headphones or reseat them slightly all that will change and you will have to redo it.

Yeah I found that out quite quickly over several different headphones, that where they sit at any given moment on the head dictates how music sounds, also how long my hair is at the time can change things too because pad sealing around the ear changes with hair thickness, which sounds crazy for open back headphones, but like how pad change makes a difference, so does how the pads sit around the ears.

One of the reasons why I also lean on bypass mode so frequently and sit comfortable in having found amps/headphones that work really well on my head without needing any EQ for these reasons so the variance for any given day is reduced as much as possible.

Sounds like a winner, shame about the lower treble wonkyness but the response seems very close to the ATh rx70xa with deeper sub bass.

Been through a bit of a shake up recently. Bought a Kithara and whilst enjoyable, the left driver went bust after about a month, sent it back for a refund. Also thought I'd try a closed back for once so bought the 480 PRO. It was alright but couldn't get on with closed back nature of it. Hearing myself thinking out loud... Also, comfort wise, I found the ear pads to be quite small, compared to my HD 650. So the 480 PRO is going back too.

Then I bought the Sony Inzone H6 AIR, wanted something comfy with decent sound and microphone as my desk space doesn't allow for a boom arm and mic. Honestly? Brilliant. Comfort is great, they sound perfectly fine to me although I found the bass a bit too much, but that is an easy fix with a little low shelf adjustment. Also ordered the AUNE AR3000, will be with me towards the end of November, hopefully.

My main rotation will be HD 650 and AR3000, both balanced into the Fosi Audio K7 and the H6 AIR into the headphone/mic output/input.

It's weird that no matter what I try, I end up going back to the HD 650. It is my forever headphone.
