has anyone had experience with this?
i hate that my teeth have that natural yellow hua and i want to get them whitened - what are the drawbacks of having this done?

The cost, as it can be pretty pricey. However I reccommend only getting it done at a professional dental clinic, as home kits have been found to have a higher-than-is-safe concentraiton of bleach in them.

Get a bag of charcoal.

Chew on it and it will clean and whiten your teeth.

It will also stop gas :D

can i just add

I know this is no help whatsoever but I hae an FHM mag at home from ages ago which did a massive article on the different types of teeth whitening you can get done and which is the most affective/cost worthy.

I'd get it done professionally otherwise you may end up looking like Ross in that Friends episode. Dayglow white.

According to my dentist most whitening toothpastes wear down the enamel on the teeth so they'll cause harm in the long term. Just cut down on the smoking/coffee and live with a slight tinge.

I enquired about this and will probably be getting it done, my teeth have the annoying natural yellow colour (and I'm a clean person as well :p) and when I see my mates with their white teeth it's damn annoying.

Mum reckons it'd be something like £200 - £300 (or I'm thinking of the wrong thing) and the dentist give you this brace type thing you wear every night to bed for a couple of weeks.

Or I've got that completely mixed up with something else :p

I've used the Crest Whitening Strips (The North American ones, tho now available here) and it gives really good results.

I personally think the main reason that dentists scare monger about home kits is simply because they loose business to them.

Or that many have actually been proven to contain unsafe levels of bleach...

common sense really though , if you can feel bleach burning your gums then take out the kit and rinse your mouth !

i beleive that was the main danger with the home bleaching kits ,

the dentists use the same stuff just with properly shaped mouth pieces.

the toothpastes tend to have "crystals" in them that wear into the enamel

I just live with it. My teeth are a bit yellowy from my morning coffee, but it's never bothered me that much. My other half uses whitening kits occasionally - they do make a visible difference and dont seem to have done her any harm.
