Why is it you and simon have this obsession with badmouthing anything that isn't either something you own or something the other one owns?

Actually, it comes across as you having an obsession with bigging up your car to the point of absurdity, as this quote from earlier shows:

225BHP, stupid fast for a car of its class/weight

How you can claim that is beyond me. Yes the Cupra is a decent enough hot hatch but 'stupid fast' for it's class? Not a chance, unless it's had some performance mods. It's pretty much average in hot hatch terms.

Hehe, i only comment on things that are massively wrong.

A LCR is certainly not stupidly fast, lets compare it to the Focus RS like you requested then. The Rs is miles faster. Your making out it is a sub 14sec car, cause this is what it would need to be to be massively faster than anything in it's class.

Ironically I think it is you who seems to think the LCR is something special rather than myself and merlin who slate everything we don't own.

Fine sod it.

Its slow, very slow, you'll find that it can't out accelerate a pushbike. And its about as reliable as the Iraqi Intelligence Minister.

Just to try and clear this up, by "its class" I meant 5-door mid-sized family hatchbacks. I know its not as quick as a focus RS, focus ST, etc but they A) aren't 5-door, and B) are a small selection of the overall number of family hatchbacks.

No it's a decent hot hatch comparible to others in it's class. Decent build and a nice ride with great brakes I would say. No need to go to the inverse magnitude of this 'stupidly fast' scale of yours.

Read my edit.

The only trouble I find with Pistonheads is that because its mainly enthusiasts who put their cars on there....they overvalue their cars and price them a lot higher than they are actually worth. Not in all cases but I find that its a PH trait.

Lol @ family hatch back.

Well an Evo has 5 doors and that's faster.

So basically the LCR is the best if you want 5 doors and a car in the same class as the focus Rs with it still being able to put your baby in the back seat and go shopping with it on the way to the track where it will own all with its stupidly fast straight line speed?

Guess Seat dont know the meaning of compromise :D

I would rather drive a LCR everyday than a FRS. The LCR is much more useable and easier to live with, plus it delivers a half decent mpg rate. I think they are really 2 different cars even though they come under the same category.

Its give and take, but the OP sounds like he wants the car to be reasonably quick, yet comfortable car, whilst able to rack up a few miles. LCR fits the bill perfectly, and also gives him scope to modify it later on if he feels the need to.

Thing is, i'd rather not buy from somewhere like Pistonheads as surely it's a surefire guarantee that the previous owner has driven it pretty hard?

I think that's a fair assumption to make. Although then again, it's probably also been warmed up/cooled down properly and well looked after. A car from Autotrader could have been owned by an old lady from new but may never have had it's oil changed. Swings and roundabouts really :p

It's amusing that everyone is obsessed with buying a car that hasn't been driven hard.

Then they buy it - and drive it hard "like it's supposed to be driven", or "cos it's begging for it".

I don't want to drive it hard, but I want to have some occasional fun in it. What I don't want is a previous barry owner. 100% unmodified (maybe chipped) for me :D

Is it really THAT bad buying from an approved Seat dealer? Compared to the prices on Pistonheads, there only seems to be a £1000 premium for buying from a dealer.

Car thats never been ragged + buyer who liked to rag = likely borken car

Car thats always ragged + buyer who likes to rag = cars used to it and anything that will break already has.

therefore buy a ragged car, thats all your gonna do anyway :p

So apart from all this ragging which sounds pretty rude, are there any other suggestions?

Also places to look for used cars would be quite a good idea, Pistonheads & Autotrader. What are auctions like?

Another suggestion is owners forums for the cars you are interested in, you will often find some for sale there, and it has the added bonus of you can have a search under the persons account name and look for posts regarding problems etc. Thats how I got mine, yes it has been ragged (I know this for a fact as I was sat in the passenger seat while it was being ragged LOL) but its also been looked after with cool-downs and warm-ups, oil changes etc.
