Anyone ever using the Royal Mail postage feature for printing a label on PayPal?

I've used it before and found it great and easy to use.

However, just over a week ago I did it for Special Delivery, and never received a tracking number. The guy I sent the item to is now saying he hasn't received the item.

I don't have a tracking number as I never got one from PayPal and when I dropped the item off at the Post Office, they only wrote me a certificate of posting, no tracking number or anything.

The guy has demanded a refund which I reluctantly gave but looking back I feel that this was the wrong action. I can deal with getting that money back, but to put yourself in my shoes what would be the best bet?

I filled out a lost mail form at the post office today as they said this was the only solution and nothing else.
 
I would say you may win a paypal dispute, because you have used their system to make the delivery, if this certificate you speak of was from the post office, then you have sufficient proof of postage.

Although it's going to be very hard considering you have already given a refund.
 
you cant of sent it special delivery, as you get a tracking number and they have to sign for it.

always send special deliver even on a £5 item.

No, I didn't receive a tracking number - I can send you the email I received if you don't believe me.

I'm not sure what to do next, have contacted PayPal and eBay but nothing more I can do.

value wise it fine, however paypal will still go with the buyer 99% of the time, the only way to protect yourself is send special and type in the tracking number in to paypal as soon as it is sent.

As you have agreed to the refund ebay/paypal will do nothing I expect. In the future dont agree to the refund until your sure. Also always put a rerun address on.
 
Return address if put on the postage label when it prints, but if PayPal provide a service and don't offer a tracking number then surely they should do somethingg about this...

Never used the paypal postage thing but special postage comes with a tracking number, without it makes life very very hard.

Recorded delivery doesn't come with a tracking number and thus makes it equally hard when trying to dispute an action.
 
I disagree with both your statements, special delivery did not give me one on this ocassion but usually I do when I go to the post office. PayPal didn't - I don't know why - but hey!

Also, Recorded Delivery does give you a tracking number as it's used to prove that you sent something, hence the title "recorded" delivery. Mainly used for sending important documents.

I've had tracking numbers for recorded delivery - only started using in the last year or so.

Yeh I'm definitely not using it again - will go to the post office and pay there.

I've filled out a lost mail form and sent that off with as much evidence as I can, am going to fight to get this money back!

Been recommended to contact local radio, such as 3counties as there's someone on at 11am weekday mornings who's good at sorting out disputes such as this.
 
Just found this on search (actually redirected from Google!) and exactly the same thing has just happened to me. Is there anything I can do, do you remember resolving this back in... errr... 2007? :D

Recorded delivery has always had a tracking code and signature upon delivery and is perfectly fine for any item upto £32 with regards to paypal/ebay claims.

If i remember correctly maccy you get the tracking code from the PO not ebay/paypal. Another thing is my local PO get ****ed when i pay online and drop off at post office as they dont get any commision or something like that. Only use if using parcelforce.

Seller protection also exists. You should not be out of pocket on low value items using recorded delivery where a signature is received.

If paypal want to refund the buyer for an undelivered item, it will have to be out of their own pocket.
 
To be fair to the Necromancer, he did say he was bringing the thread back from 2007. No harm done though, he's got a question and I'm sure Maccy will update it when he's gotten over the surreality of seeing what he wrote 5 years ago.

Not correct, if its not recieved / lost in post the seller has to cover it and then claim back from RM

If you have a signature and the buyer claiming non-delivery, thats what I was referring to.

If RM actually lose it then yes you have to claim.
