I've just finished watching Blood Diamonds. A superb film. I though DiCaprio's performance was particularly strong.

Very emotional in places, and an example of how western consumerisim affects the rest of the world.

I feel dreadfully sorry for the child soldiers especially, what an awful life they must have.

Brilliant film I thought - Leo as always amazing. (totally robbed of an oscar if you ask me!!)
As you said very emotional and graphic at points but just adds to the film!!
Read a book after the film about a true life boy from the same area's and then made it to NY - great read

Not a bad film but I can't say it was fantastic. I'll have to watch it again sometime to see if my opinion changes. But I will admit, I watched the last king of scotland after it and my god what an awful film. Blood Diamonds is top notch compared to it.

I agree. A very good performance from DiCaprio. I make no bones about it; I had a lump in my throat in the scene where DiCaprio gets shot (that wasn't the highlight of the scene of course, just so you know what scene I am referring to).

I thought it did well to bring light to how western culture makes profit from these diamonds dug up by slaves. And how many of the western people know nothing about the diamond they just spent thousands on, or where it came from. We can't be blamed for funding this sort of thing though obviously, but it does make you think.

Di Caprio is an extremely good actor. One of my favourites and in this film he is brilliant again. The film itself was also fantastic in my opinion. Think I'll rent it on DVD and get my mum and dad to watch it as its a film I'm sure they'd enjoy too.

I really enjoyed it if I remember rightly and thought Leo was VERY impressive, I'm not a huge fan but he surprised me, definitely a film worth watching, good acting, good setting and a great storyline.

8/10

*digs up thread*

Just watched this myself, what a fantastic film. DiCaprio always surprises me with the quality of his performances.

It is always refreshing to see actual good acting and storyline these days, it happens so rarely now.

I love how when the capital city gets attacked, a guy shoots a car with a 50 cal and it just sparks instead of bullet holes, even on the window!

Why do they spend so much on humvees when this car can resist 50 cal bullets!

I watched Basketball Diaries before Blood Diamond and have to say Di Caprio is a talented bloke. It's a pity most will associate him with Titanic.

Even though he's fairly mainstream as well (not a bad thing I'm trying to say) but I do have a lot of time for Tom Hanks as well. He's another guy who can pull off almost any role he wants with amazing success. Pitt, Clooney etc., are just lame in comparison.

Are you mad?! Blood Diamond was good but it's nothing compared to the Last King of Scotland. LKoS was the best film i've seen at the cinema for years. Forest Whitaker was absolutely terrifying!

Blood Diamond was ace i thought. Also agree on the emotional part, nearly had a tear in my eye at one point.

8.5/10
