I saw this movie last night and it was absolutely brilliant :cool:

It's definitely one of them films that have you running around in a circle pulling your hair shouting "OMGWTFBBQ".

I'm going to ask a really obvious question but did I understand the ending correctly? All this time whilst Robert was looking for the ultimate unique trick, Alfred's trick was to use the machine once to get his double? If that's the case why did Tesla say his machine would be different and unique? Also at the end when Alfred revealed his door trick he said that he and his double would swap lives, why? I also understand he sacrificed Sarah's life but for what reason?

I highly recommend this movie to anyone, it did start off slow but wow, what a movie :)

Absolutely brilliant film. I watched it a few weeks back and loved it.

SPOLIERS

Alfred never used the machine. His double was simply his twin brother, Fallon, who used a disguise when not performing. And they used to swap roles so one was Alfred and one was Fallon at different times.

When Alfred told Robert about Tesla he made it up. He had never used him to create a machine. Alfred had only briefly met Tesla at Tesla's show which went wrong, this gave him the idea. He used the Tesla lie to send Robert on a wild goose chase. Tesla was simply the code for the diary. He didn't anticipate that Tesla actually would go on to create the machine for Robert.

He didn't sacrifice Sarah, she killed herself because she thought he was having an affair with Scarlet's character. In reality he wasn't, it was his brother that loved Scarlet. He loved Sarah. She didn't know he had a twin.

lacking retractable titanium claws no doubt? :)

@everyone else who's seen it just the once;
def watch it again, once you know the story you notice a lot more of the little things :)

Apple oggies for the revival.

Watched this last night and didn't quite get how if Borden had a twin, how come he tells Angiers the key word to his book is Tesla?

I missed that they were twins and couldn't work out why Tesla thought the machine wasn't working but I'm thinking he must have done it before for Borden.

*More spoilers, in case people haven't cottoned on yet!*

I always formed a slightly different opinion of the clones, but it would appear to differ from the general consensus. I'm sure at one point he mentions that each time he does the trick he can never be sure if it will be him or the clone who drops into the tank, so in fact every time 'he' does the trick he may be sacrificing himself for it at a rate of 50/50. This means that the original Robert is almost certainly in one of the tanks, unless he's very, very lucky.

Not sure if that's right but it always added a little extra darkness to the story for me. :)

Spoilers.......

I took him saying that to mean, the machine copied him so well, he couldnt tell he was actually the clone and maybe he hoped he was somehow always the original but deep down he knew he was a copy.
