Pro Evolution Soccer 7/2008

Obviously they prioritise there work into making the game enjoyable playing wise? Which is why everyone buys the game..To play football.

I couldn't care for snazzy menu's and popular music as long as the gameplay is good I'm happy.

But considering the Menu's wouldn't take any time at all, just a bit more effort than the pathetic ones they have given us in 1 thru 6, is it too much to ask for something that appears the finished article?

I agree a bit more effort on the presentation side would be more than welcome, just because it has been the norm for the past couple of years doesnt mean that it should remain this way.

Konami need to put more care into Presentation, this is something EA Sports always get right. Hell, so do 2K sports.

I have always liked EA's layouts with menu's etc. They have even tried to create a unified menu system across their sports games, which i think is a great idea. Yet they got slated for it, and i don't know why.

I actually find those screenies very dissapointing although in motion im sure it will look nicer.
The AI updates sound nice as does the improved close control, if they get all that right and eliminate the rubber banding i'll be chuffed and gladly return to PES.

Stadium looks ok, crowd look crap, grass looks crap, player models look crap, the shirts are the only thing that looks half decent.

Hopefully Konami get the presentation and music much better this time round, and add a lot more content. They also need to sort out the bloody AI slide tackling, giving a away a penalty and then getting sent off.

I don't even think the Stadiums look okay. It should definitely look better, Konami's sports section aren't that good technically when it comes to graphics, however their programming section is pretty good (better than EA's atleast).

PES6 on the Xbox 360 was lacking in the presentation and options departments. However, I found the gameplay to be the best yet. I'll take gameplay over fancy menus any day of the week. :)

The new AI system sounds good. I can't wait to play it.

They need to do something about the slow down in and around the box. Also make sure they 360 version isnt lacking options.

That was my biggest gripe with the 360 version in that it was a crippled version of the previous gen pes 6. It should have at least matched in all departments and i still cant quite get my head round the reason it didn't.

Because Konami don't have a clue what they're doing, thats why.

They have promised this and promised that with the last two versions which didn't materialize, they are so incompetent.

They can't be ps3 screenshots, the point in buying a ps3 is that you should expect the game graphically to look a lot better than it's 6 or 7 year old predecesor, they screenshots are hardly an improvement over last seasons ps2 game, which makes me think they are ps2 screenshots or indeed pes6 screenshots upscaled using the ps3 :D
Pes6 on the 360 looks better than them.

It's true though as long as the gameplay is radically better than the last two dross the graphics come second, but you would have to expect it to look better on the next gen systems.

If you pay good money for a game it's not unreasonable to expect quality in every department in my opinion.

I was referring to the graphics actually not 'snazzy menus'. The games have always played better than FIFA but they have even been idle in that department for years, according to many longstanding fans of the series. Personally I think PES 5 and 6 weren't as good as they should have been. I'm hoping PES 2008 manages to actually fix longstanding problems and improve this time around.
My point really is that Pro Evo has always delivered exactly as expected, there's no surprises when the presentation isn't up to Fifa's standard.

I agree 100% that 5 and 6 haven't really been up to scratch, but that's based entirely on the gameplay.

Despite my thinking the presentation is as expected, I am starting to come round to this way of thinking. With every new version the excuse for having poor presentation grows weaker and weaker.

Despite being a FIFA fan since the first one I played back in 1998, even I had to admit that PES had really closed the gap until last year, to the point where I really had to think hard about which to get - FIFA07 or PES6.

But this year it's not really going to be much of a contest for me, I thought PES6 should have been where Konami really took advantage of the fact that FIFA had become stale. But instead, where EA actually got off their arses and improved the game a fair chunk, Konami didn't.

To summarise, I thought FIFA07 was the best FIFA for years, probably since I first picked up a Playstation controller to play it back in 1998.

It's gonna be FIFA08 for me i'm afraid. :) Although I expect i'll rent PES7 to see what it's like.

I'm not being funny, but the last thing on Konami's mind is 'we have to close the gap on Fifa'.

You prefer Fifa, and I respect your opinion, but Pro Evo is so widely considered to be far ahead of Fifa or any other footie game that the idea of Konami even bothering what Fifa does is just ludicrous. In fact, it's Fifa that has taken many elements from Pro Evo over the years and tried to put them into their game.

Having said that, if I was trying to convert someone over to Pro Evo, I certainly wouldn't use 6 to do it.

I personally think that difference between 5 and 6 was marginal, i am a pes fan, however, the improvements put into Fifa 07 for the 360 were far greater than pes 6. Granted there wasnt much needed to improve on the gameplay side but a lot could have been done on the presentation and features side...hopefully this will be rectified in Pes 7.
