Pro Evolution Soccer 7/2008

I actually hated 5, whereas 6 was simply disappointing.

I can't take Fifa seriously, it just doesn't look like real football. For all their motion capture, when it's put together the way the players move, shoot, pass, almost every action in the game looks completely false. Any realism advantage that Fifa has beacuse of the license is undone tenfold once the game starts.

I'm not expecting a major overhaul of Pro Evo's presentation, but I do think maybe it is about time they at least attempt to put a little effort in.

I'm not being funny, but the last thing on Konami's mind is 'we have to close the gap on Fifa'.

And thats the problem, the lack of competition over the last couple of games has caused Konami to become really damned lazy, shoddy next gen port, faults that have been in the game since pro evo 4 are STILL there, and just any genuine intent to take the genre forwards. Im hoping that this all changes but im really not optimistic :(

Just a better Master league would keep me happy.
Have you ever played the Fifa games since 06? That has an absolutely brilliant managerial mode in similar to Master League. If PES had that it would be unbelievable.

I personally think PES has taken 2 steps back since PES4 as well. The newer moves are great in 5 and 6, but the gameplay dynamics were best in PES4.

The biggest and best change to PES has been widescreen support.

I wish they would spend less time/money on making sure the players looked accurate and more time improving the glaring gameplay problems.

For instance, long passes are just too flaky, not being able to challenge 'keepers ball' at all, corners being absolute pot luck, pointless offsides being called when you would rather have just continued, dismal commentary, lack of changing crowd noise. The single flat 'phut' sound every time you pass the god damn ball. etc etc.

A game a year as seems to be the trend with sports game and is typical for what has become a capitalist orgy; sport. I would much rather a solid game every couple of years than the cash in with 'extra facial hair features'.

I have both Fifa 07 and PES6 on the Xbox 360. Even with the flaws PES6 is still the better game, I was a huge FIFA fanboy until I finally played PES3 (I had played ISS Deluxe etc on the SNES) Yes, Fifa 07 was a massive improvement, but the likenesses of some of the players is a complete joke, Just on Man Utd players here, Scholes looks like a generic face, as does Vidic (who has longish blonde hair!) Whilst in PES they both look perfect.

One thing i hate about PES is the commentary, I would rather listen to frigging Busted that put up with those two 'tards.

There are aspects of each game that should be in both obviously, but I will likely buy both again this year but I expect it will be PES7 that keeps me coming back for more.

Interesting to see the SS of a player being interviewed, maybe they've actually added something to the master league?

I'll probably end up buying the next PES on the PC as the mods bring it up to scratch.

In regards to a new installment of PES every year, I have never been dissapointed with them, the good thing is tha game never needs a overhaul, just fixes of small glitches in the game. Konami do this every year so for me, its impossible not to enjoy the game more than the last.
I'd hate to start playing 3, 4 or 5 now as the difference between them and 6 would be a big one.

Of course, 6 could have been better certainly for 360 owners, it was terrible the advantages the PS2 & PC platforms got over the 360 but I soon forgot this.

I always try giving FIFA a try every year since 1995, I think World Cup: 98 is where it start going wrong and Konami took over in the gameplay department. FIFA just leaves me dissapointed, every time. I dont think this will ever change.

Roll on October.

The all black boots really need changing and i dont even care much about the gfx :)

Looking forward to this.

looking forward to this, I cant beleive people bother playing fifa, sure it has all the licesneing etc but the actual games are awful, Pro Evo has been ahead of Fifa for years, and fifa is constantly copying things from it, and in my opinion Pro Evo's graphics have been better since PES4 by far.

Yeah RTWC 98 was actually a really good game, put many hours in on that.

Me too. Still have it on my gold old chunky PSX :D

As regards to Pro V Fifa, i find Fifa is fun for a couple of weeks after i get it but then i don't seem to play it after that initial period really. With pro, i keep going back to it all year round until the next one is out.

Hopefully the Konami boys will do a bit more justice to the next generation of consoles.

Hopefully this version will be completed rather than a rushed half hearted cut down version of the sublime ps2 and pc versions. Im not just talking about options available in them 2 versions, Im talking about the actual gameplay. Playing the ps2 or pc version is like playing a totally different football game. It makes me sad when I play PES6 on the 360 :(

Oh and Mikel Arteta should be as good as he actually is :)

?? I've played the PC version and I couldn't see a difference gameplay wise. Can you englighten me on the difference?

I've heard the PS2 version plays slightly differently, maybe the PC version is a port of that?

I do know that there were subtle differences between the PC and Console versions of 4 so it is possible.

It's also worth noting that the American version of 6 also plays slightly differently (I downloaded the Winning Eleven demo off the American Marketplace). Nothing major, just a subtle difference to the way the players moved, can't remember if the shooting was different, think it might have been, though again any difference was only slight.

Well, after playing every single incarnation of the game I notice even the smallest most difference in the way the game plays. The 360 version is not as fluid as the pc and ps2 version. I like to play a style of football on PES that is more pleasing to the eye than most people. I find I can play that style of football better on the other versions of PES6 than the 360 version.

I'm a PES boy, I don't give a toss about the graphics, all I care about is the gameplay and hopefully they won't hack the xbox360 version to pieces this time by taking away nearly all of the customisation features and the save replay feature and whatever else they took out that I still havn't found out about yet in PES6. The 360 version's gameplay is just pure wierd as well; all the goals are a bit mad and unpredictable, not to mention getting some really random challenges at times.

PES6 was a bit wierd overall.

Most importantly, Derby are going to be the next pro. Woot! :D

played all the pes from 4 onwards, though 5 and OCUK helped me finally become a PES fan, i used to have the 360 version, and the ps2 etc

not much help but pes 6 patched on the PC with real teams etc and the gameplay tweaked, is perfect. dont need a powerful pc so its worth a look
