I have a wireless router in my house, should I be able to connect my DS Lite to it? Will it matter that I put a WEP encruption key on the router?

WEP is inferior to WPA, although both can be cracked WEP keys can be obtained quicker than WPA.

Depending upon what router you've got, you can use firmwares such as dd-wrt which will enable you to have multiple SSIDs running on the one router, so you have one SSID that is protected by WPA that protects your normal LAN, and a second SSID using WEP that is only allowed access to the internet but not your LAN. In this way, the DS can connect out but if anyone tries breaking in to your WEP SSID they would only have access to the internet and not the machines on your LAN.

What a clever idea that is. it must stress the router a lot more though? I wonder why stock firmware doesn't have that option?

Wheres me shovel :p

Hi GarethDW,

You got any more details on this? Link would be great...

Ive got a Linksys WRT54G (v4) so I know DD-WRT works on it but just need to understand how to set this up and if it would effect my other connections.

Theres no way Im reducing my current protection (WPA2) for anything and it would be very useful to have a seperate WEP Internet access for my Wifi phone and DS lite...

Thanks

Not really. The stock firmware will use as few features as they can get away with to save development costs.

Cheers mate,

Gonna give it a go over the weekend and see what luck I have :)

Just hope my assumption that my router works with the DS lite is right...
