Hi,

I'm wanting to add a graphics card to my oldish pc just to update it a bit for now. It will accept PCI or AGP 8x and I'm looking for a 128/256mb gfx card. I'm not wanting to spend a great deal as I will be spending most of the money on a HTPC soon so anything thats cheap but good for average gaming (i.e new command & conquer)

Thanks

Whats your budget? as there are a wide variety of AGP cards out there that perform well and most of which are price different :p

Edit/ And whats the spec of the htpc?

little as possible really lol nothing more than £50 for certain would be happy to spend £30 second hand or £50 for ATI off OC

thanks for the quick reply!

Well I would personally say any X800 series cards which are very good performers but lack SM3, I had a X800GTO2 which could handle every game out there @ 1280x1240, I upgraded to a X1950PRO (AGP) and the difference was great, but the AGP X1950's are expensive (£80-100)

this card isn't for my HTPC just for my basic pc which is being updated slightly just to keep it going its....

Celeron D 2.8 Ghz
1024mb ram
80gb 7200 HD
M audio 2496 Sound Card
On board gfx card

Doesn't sound great but runs a dream for what I do apart from to play the new CnC so a gfx card is in order then a new Corsair 520w PSU

Would this grpahics card cut it.....

ah okay no problem :)

yea the x1650 is a good card, even so an ati radeon x800 gto agp would out perform the above card and could be had cheaper on the bay, but like i said x800cards lack sm3 which most new games out/coming out require.

There are XT/XTPE/GTO2 X800 cards which are quicker the GTO but a little bit more expensive, also consider a 7600 Nvidia series card these have SM3 but are a tad more expensive then the ATI equivalents.
