Have you ever bought a strategy guide?

Never bought one myself. I try to avoid tips wherever I can, if I get really stuck then that's when I resort to gamefaqs.

I have for GTA3 & GTA:VC, simply because they are big games and the guides really do help, especially for the map as pointed out above.

My parents bought me Deus Ex and the Prima guide for me on my birthday (just two weeks after game release)

All in all, it was a very interesting read, I found I really enjoyed the way it was written, the approach to the advice given, or the plot information.

If I ever get into a game like Deus Ex again I will definitely consider buying a guide. Sure the information is all over the web, but for the pleasure of reading along whilst I am playing, I would want the guide.

I remember when i was really struggling with Legend of Zelda:Majora's Mask, so i had to buy one, still didnt complete the bloody game.

Nope, I'll just ask a mate on MSN or YIM or post here.
Can't see the point in getting a guide or help unless you get totally stuck. Surely a big part of the fun is working it out yourself & playing it your way.

I've bought a few over the years. If I'm not sure about a game, or I just need help for one particular obstacle, I'll just lookup what I want in the 'net; but if I like a game and I keep wanting to know things I'll buy. I find them most useful for RPGs - most shooters are so linear it doesn't really matter.

I bought a guide book for Final Fantasy VII (after completing it) so I could do all the extra things you're supposed to do in the game, things which aren't even hinted-at in the game itself.

This was before I had internet access though, I wouldn't dream of buying such a thing now.

never bought one even when the net was just starting you could get walkthroughs for all games. Most of my PSone games were completed by walkthroughs. Also these days which patches for games you would be silly to buy one as things can change in games.

Bought one for Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII. I'll buy it if it's for that type of game where it is so massive etc.

Oblivion and BG2. Also got the HL2 one for £1 when I bought the game. Useful to see what bits I've missed after completing an area/quest.

I find them excellent reading for when sitting on the throne - can't/won't do internet there ;)

i've only brought one for FF7 on PS2, i find it to be a waste tbh, whats the fun in playing games if you know whats going to happen/how to do a hard part?!
