Well its finally happened, my good old reliable 360 has finally given up the ghost, manufacture date of Nov 2005, and been used a lot since then. Played Bioshock Friday night, and a bit on Saturday morning, did a few jobs as I was going on holiday later in the day and flicked it back on to take the disc out as I was going to give the 360 to my brother for a week.

On flicking it on, greeted by three flashing red lights, only top right unlit. Think thats the red lights that means it needs to go back to MS?

Whats the chances or me not having to send the hard drive back? Really want to keep the saved games, as I must be about 90% on Forza and Id rather just sell games uncompleted than play through them again after so much effort.

Or if I so have to send it back, are there any tricks to getting it running for a little while so I can copy a few onto a memory card or something?

Im in Spain for a week anyway, shame it didnt happen a few days back so I could have got it picked up before I came away.

You shouldn't have to send the HDD if it goes to MS.

Most of the time they ask for just the console, sometimes they ask for the power brick too.

Have a look at your power brick when the console is on. Is the light on on the power brick on? If so, what colour is it?

If it's green that means it's your 360 itself that's broken, so all you'll have to send back is the core unit - not the hard-drive or power brick.

Looks like it's only a matter of time for anyone with a launch system. Bioshock was obviously the straw that broke the camel's back... :(

Worse case scenario get a Memory card and transfer your saves to that using a friends xbox. You really need to keep the hard-drive, I've not yet had to send that back so you should be fine.

If I remember right, there is some stuff on the forza save that you cannot transfer.

Keep the hard drive.

I've sent two back now. They just ask for the console. Latest one took 3 weeks to be repaired and sent back to me.

Rob - hope you don't mind if I borrow your photo for the FAQ?

Great idea for the thread, would be nice to have one thread to link to and post 360 woes in. Should be a sticky but probably wont need to be as someone new joins the 'club' every other day.

Nope not a problem, would prefer if you rehost, but you can link to mine if absolutely necessary. I have a few more but I think that was the best one, took me a few shots to get the lights on :p

Off the top of my head, I think the power brick light was orange, but not 100%.

Cant say Im all that fussed, going to be more annoyed if I get another one back as replacement thats either marked, or considerably louder.

Good to hear they probably wont need the hard drive, dont think I would send it even if they asked!

You have done well to have it last that long, especially considering the amount you have used it :)

You will get your console back.

I don't intend to open a can of worms but there seems to be a quite few 360's going pop after playing Bioshock, bizarre...

Yup, noticed that myself. Seems to happen with a fair few new releases, Im guessing they are using more and more of the 360s power and pushing it further, resulting in a lot of failures.

Its coincidence. 2 or 3 per week die on here. When a new game comes out like forza or Bioshock half the forum buys it. Most of my OCUK FL is playing it. It just happens to be that game it dies on.

Lots of people here had a 360 die during the long hours of forza. Coincidence due to the high numbers playing a certain game.

One of mine died playing Motogp 06.

If every 360 owner on here bought and played Shrek 3 for a month, there would be loads of consoles die and people would blame the awesome power required to run the game ;)

Its back!

UPS left a nice package next door today, so quite a quick turnaround really. Picked up on Friday 8th and back on the 19th. My old 360 back rather than a new one, had the box for motherboard ticked on the list of errors.
