hi there
i had 2 gigs of ultra low latency and then a few months later
upgraded to 4
my question is in cpu-z 2 sticks show up as pc6400 and two as
pc5300 which is a bit odd.
both boxs say they are pc6400 (which is what i orderd) so why do two report to be pc5300?
should i call ocuk and ask for new sticks?
all the best

thanks cob
i swapped the sticks around
ie slots 1 and 3 with slots 2 and 4
and the same two still say they are 5300.
ill try and find somthing other then cpu-z
all the best

Have you tried setting the speed and timings yourself in bios? Seems that a lot of mobos set the Geil Ultra wrong.

yes i set the timings in the bios, ive a gigabyte ds4
the same 2 sticks show up as pc2 5300 in PC Wizard as well?
ive 4 sticks
2 show PC2 5300
2 show PC2 6400

Had the same problem with my dads pc, everything was set to auto and it picked it up as 5300 with 5-5-5-12 timings or something too high. Manually set it to 6400 with the correct timings and it has been fine ever since. What does it say on the ram?

Early GEIL 6400 memory shows as 5300. SPD's should have been altered by GEIL on the later sticks. Voltage for the memory should be set to 2.1v (+0.30v in the BIOS) instead of the motherboard default of 1.8v.

Early ones show a best of PC2-5300 C5, new ones show PC2-6400C5.

They all need 2.1V to make PC2-6400C4.

The early ones may even have micron chips?

Nothing to worry about. Just set the memory to its rating in the bios and you'll be fine. All should be explained in the instructions that came with the memory.
