Just settung up board out of box
and i'm thinking of updating the bios before i continue

any comments on biso 11 - Bios Issue Date:2007/07/09

also

anything special about the sata prots apart from the annoying angle
my cables will have to be on to work

e.g. - are 3 / 4 special for raid ?

i've no idea hence the bizarre question :p

thanks

I'd recommend v11 bios, brings some good memory stability with it. Although the usual advice is only upgrade when necessary, I think this one is worth it.

I updated through FlashMenu from Vista 64, but the usual recommendation is to create a boot floppy and do it through that. Probably best to follow that, tbh.

Dunno about onboard sata raid, sorry.

I did the same as MK17, using flash box. Update from file. OS Vista Ultimate 64bit
About SATA connectors. I'm using nr 1 - 2 for my Raptors in Raid0, nr 3 for Sata Plextor DVD, nr.4 for 120GB 2.5" hard drive

Updating from within Windows is Russian roulette. Just about the best way of turning the board into a brick.

Bios 11 is recommended, the ver 10/B3 had AHCI problems iirc. USB boot disk is the easiest method to flash, if not then floppy disk. Make sure you reformat the disks before use. Ive created raid arrays and plugged them in again any old way, always manages to recognise the disks on different ports.

thanks for the info

i'm not a raid fan , just checking all connections are ok to use

having some trouble in the board recognising my 2nd drive

i'll floppy bios update - old ways r the best :)

only just found out theres some member here called seanABIT

who has the inside info

also googled on this dual boot problem i never knew anything about

seems that checking what voltage your memory is at is a good idea

oh yeh, should've mentioned, reset any o/c to back to default before flashing the bios. some people don't, and you're unlikely to have any o/c on a new build just yet, but just in case any of your settings don't play nice with the new bios.

He is abit tech support after all ...
There are 2 beta 12 versions out too.

The Pro shouldn't do it but it will stop/restart when saving new BIOS settings as do virtually all 965/P35 chipset mobos.

mk17

looks like i cant get all v11 on a floppy

if i use usb - dont i need a usb with dos on as well so a bootable usb ?

or are these new boards just way too clever

if i just have to copy the expanded zip with 5 files i'll be well impressed

thanks

thanks for the link

in the end i went the 2 floppy route

1 to boot up , then bios update file on sep one

after flashing it just sat there but after a proper on/off its ok

there was a clear cmos switch used at some point but i cant remember now when - think it was at the beginning

memory was at DDR2 816 - which threw me as its ballistix ddr2 800

but altered the cpu "stuff" - and then 800 turned up

also voltage was 1.8v wheres as my crucial ballistix is 2.2v
so i've changed that as well

hope bios 12 sorts this stuff out itself

All 965/P35 board will put the memory voltage at 1.8 for stock, so that is normal.

The memory is running at 816 as the default FSB of the board is 204 not 200, which is a bit naughty by Abit but it does give them a 'boost' in stock benchmarks. You will need to set it manually back to 200 to make it truely stock.
