Right I dont wanna be that guy...but

Sorry, and don't want to be that guy, but you're just starting to sound like another fan boy trying to justify his purchase.

this justification you speak of?....why do you think i would feel the need to justify my purchase un-provoked on the internet to people i've never met?...well the answer is i dont, i made a justification prior to making my purchase like most normal human beings. so im not sure why i would feel the need to justify parting with £424, when i'm quite clearly happy with my purchase. I started this thread to try establish...well you know what lets not even go int that, but a few posts have shown i'm not the on;y one who believes what i put in my original post

What did you expect would happen when you started this thread?

It does sound like you're looking for reassurance or justification or something.

The xbox 360 is a games console
The ps3 is a games console+1 -the games(for now anyways), therefore it's just +1 (a blu ray and media streamer :P)

It's possible to show your happiness and genuine excitement for a product without being disparaging about the alternatives.

Fixed for you.
Also, I bought a games console so I expect to play games.

so when you bought your media device as you call it did you excpect to play games ?

not having a go because your probably one of the only people who actually says sensible things about ps3 on here

i find myself using the ps3 web browser quite allot at the moment while my pc is fubard

been able to download stuff videos etc from sites too the hdd is a bonus to me , especially since the psn itself is lacking in those videos

if i had a bigger hdd for it id use it for media stuff without the need to stream too

I really did expect to be playing games, but the console is still living off its more than average launch line-up. I was looking forwards to playing GRAW2 and The Darkness amongst others only to read of massively inferior ports, which if I'm being totally honest, wouldn't bother me IF it had some quality original titles on it. I would buy Ninja Gaiden Sigma which is a fantastic game, but it really doesn't offer me anything that Ninja Gaiden didn't on the Xbox(1).

It's a shame because I love the PS3 as a unit, it's stunning, reliable, has some great features, superb blu-ray and bar one thing that really annoys me (its heat output) it's just awesome, coupled with the fact it has an excellent online service for free no less, it should be doing better.

As it stands the console was 16 months late and from the line-up of games it still feels like it's been rushed out. As a games console I'd probably rank it up there as potentially the worst major console of all time, however as a unit it's potentially the very best of all time.

Its best games SHOULD have been the ported games, but they are poor. As it stands its major titles are Resistance and Motorstorm, neither of which are exactly world beaters, and other than that you have Virtua Fighter 5 which is superb (but bettered on the Xbox360) and Formula 1 (which really is a good game).

My comment was merely on the fact that he said it's a good games console when it really isn't as it simply doesn't have the games, or at least not the very good ones. It seemed as if Heavenly Sword was to be its saving grace and that doesn't seem to have panned out. IT would seem that it's major game for 12 months will be Warhawk which is where my problem lies, as we aren't even getting that for what's a reported further 4 months at least (early 2008 is what I've heard).

People were quick (myself included) to complain that Xbox360 was slow for titles, delivering only Project Gotham Racing and Call of Duty 2 on launch as major releases, we then waited til the last week of March before titles. People said 4 months was too long, however Playstation3 is fast approaching 12 months and still nothing is really there. For me, with it's games coming at the times they are, it seems the PS3 should have been getting released in November/December worldwide this year. It just seems backwards.

I want it to be good and I absolutely adore the console, but as I've always said it's the games that make the console and on that alone the Playstation3 is almost sinking without trace.

Nokkon - I do agree with pretty much everything you have said - The dodgy 360 ports annoy me, but you can't blame Sony for that, surely thats the lazy developers, rushing it out to coin it in?

Warhawk is due out in the UK on PSN in 4 days time and I believe the BD version is sometime in September.

The 360 launch lineup in my opinion was far better than the PS3's CoD2 is still one of the best FPS's ever and I loved PGR3. PS3's should have been so much better Resistance and Motorstorm were good, but not as good as CoD2 and PGR3.

All that said, I love my PS3 far more than I did my 360, but I am the kind of person that doesn't need a ton of games to keep me happy, I like to take my time and play through one game at a time, for example, I spent well over 20hrs on the Darkness where as most people probably nailed it in 11-15hrs?

The PS3's future is a very bright one IMO but right now I wouldn't buy one unless I was happy to just play a handful of games until later in the year.

This made me giggle at a Gametrailers forum about the PS3 using only 20% of it's 'power';

ps3 board: zomg ps3 is only using 20% of its power

xbox 360 board: wow how the hell am i gonna choose between bioshock, mass effect, halo 3, pgr4, blue dragon, lost odyssey, and eternal sonata this fall? way too many good games coming out!

I think Microsoft deserves the most credit this generation, look at how much the Xbox was outsold by the ps2 then look at this generation. Evidence that it has more quality titles. I'm a gamer I have a ps3 and have never watched a blu ray in my life and right now the 360 is the best thing out for games.

right on Nokkon!

also you should add that as a games console because at the end of the day thats what most people are after then price is still a major factor in the UK compared to a sub £200 core and Wii. I nearly brought the ps3 today again on that £375 highstreet deal with 2 free games, 2 blu-ray movies and a extra contoller but still it was the price and the fact there is no real must own games out yet after 6 months out in the UK that told me to put my money away till next year (maybe)

The fault lies with Sony for (yet again) making the hardest of the consoles to code for. The problem this time is people weren't so willing to wait the extra 12 months like they were against Dreamcast for Playstation2, so people went out and bought Xbox360, now developers are struggling to port games from a console that's just as powerful and easy to code on to a console that's harder.

I thought that was in the US only and EU was next year?

Nope 28th US and 30th EU on the PSN Store, honestly couldn't say for sure about the BD releases.

I don't see why people can't just accept other people's choices as THEIR choices and stop trying to preach how their choice was better for X, Y & Z reason.

Can't we all just get along.

PS3 IS a games console +1 but its also a games console +£195

Some people want to buy a games console for playing games on without paying for a bunch of crap they don't want, some people want to buy a blu-ray player with a games console built in. It's as simple as that.
