Ok so i'll start off with admitting my car IS geting old..

Peugeot 106 GTi T/1999, I bought new when i just turned 20 and it gave me a good first 5 years....then the cambelt broke at 41k miles, 16 valves later and a big hole in my wallet all was well again, then the back box broke off, replaced.

I then bought at RX7 which i drove most the time so the pug got neglected, sold Rx7 after 18 months when i decided i couldn't afford both with a mortgage and living on my own, stuck with the pug as it was going to be the obviously cheaper car to run...

...then the exaust broke again, at the Cat. Replaced cat, then car failed MoT as rear suspension was looking in a bad way, acording to Peugeot it would need £1000+ spend on it (new rear beam), fortunately 2 bushes replaced and MOT passed but car had been off the road for a month. Then the gearbox got very noisy a few months ago, replaced that last month, yesterday i picked up the car from the garage from having the very noisy drivers side drive shaft replaced with a new one, today i get into the car and start it up to hear the back box is now blowing again and there is a new knocking sounds from the rear suspension.

i've had this car for more than 8 years and i'm attached to it but i'm beginning to think it hates me. (only done 52k miles to date).

Sorry if that was boring but i needed to vent, it's doing my head in that i have to throw £200 - £300 a month at this car to keep it running.

hehe unlucky :), i went through 5 tyres :O! in 2 months due to some random wee **** putting nails in my side walls that emptied the bank ;( then it failed the mot, and last week 2 strut ? arms or something needed done :)

Other than that its been a yrs :P cheap driving

and what car is it?

Sounds a lot like my 106GTi, ive spent absolute fortunes keeping it running, although to be fair, its now done 109k and I bought it on 28k iirc.

mine is a gofl 16v. i put a pipercross cone filter on it at xmas time because the panel filter it came with (K&N) had chunky great holes in it and the pipercross was new and cheap... so was a stop gap that i didnt really sort out till now. its back to the old air box with proper cold air fed to it with the proper venturis in there too... much better engine response, pulls progressively hard to the redline. it wasnt as easy as going back to the normal airbox sounds as i had to relocate the catch tank too

i also got round to ditching the sub which weighed a ton and sorted a slow puncture on the NSF which means with less weight and the right pressures for longer than 5 mins after pumping it up, its now an absolute hoot to chuck around agin

with a group N omp exhaust, it sounds as barmy as a rally car for the extra grin factor.

came back home the long way from somewhere, taking some of my favourite roads in. still got a grin 2 hours later

Remind me not to buy french  Just changing the springs/shocks/bushes on the Saab. 24 years and 180k miles, so not done too bad :)

It's old at 1999 because it's french and they fall apart fast, and anyway i said getting old not is old :P

....i mean come on, i bought it in the last millenium! :)

My brothers 106 gti costs him a fortune in repairs. Wheels bearings, bushes, TRE's, drop links, tyres, gearbox rebuild x 2, oil leaks x 3, exhaust x 1, manifold x 1, airfilter x 1, rear complete axle x 1, clutch x 2, alternator x 1, power steering x 1 and the list goes on. However, he hits 7200+k revs in it countless times every day. He drives it like he has stole it all the time, even from cold. Suppose he asks for it :)

Guess i'm lucky, I've had to have a middle exhaust box on mine in 2 years :D the drop links need doing but that isnt exactly expensive or difficult. I has only done 18k from new though :D

To be fair i dont do many miles in it, prob 500 a month.
