USB Wireless Dongle causes PC not to post

any one any ideas? My friend has recently purchased a DLink USB wireless dongle (DW-111) to connect to his network. The dongle works fine when you connect it once Windows XP has loaded. However, if you switch off the PC and then turn it on again, it refuses to Post. As soon as you remove it - voila - it boots again.

Its an MSI socket 754 motherboard, and I'm sure I've heard of this happening before - possible something to do with the drain the USB dongle is putting on the 5v power from the USB socket.

I've tried removing all USB devices other than the dongle. Also tried changing the USB settings within the BIOS (ie legacy USB support, that sort of thing)

I have a sneaking suspicion that no matter what I do this won't work. But I was kind of hoping that someone on this forum might have seen this before and by some miracle knew how to resolve it without buying anything!

Many thanks in advance to anyone who has any ideas!

If you have a USB hub lying around (a powered one), this could diagnose your problem too, as there would be no USB power strain.

On a slightly side note, my sisters usb devices are all powered (i.e. sent power) when the system is off, i.e. before the power button has been pressed. She has to cut the mains to turn off the mouses bright laser LED thing.

There may be jumpers on the motherboard to set that behavior.

T choose weather the USP ports run on +5V or 5Vsb.
