EEK! pls help! Bios Erased after flashing? P5K Deluxe

Please can you help?!

I have an Asus P5K Deluxe and i used the Asus update utility to flash the BIOS but it seems to of failed and erased my bios!? Now the system wont post just the fans and a quick HDD light flickers before a quiet beep then shutsdown and repeats.

I have the BIOS on a USB key and the Asus disk in the drive but it never posts far enought to use them?! Any tricks I can i try?!

I really hope you can help...
 
I'm in the same boat with my spangly new Blitz Formula ! Really frustrating....will be watching this thread......
 
New Bios Chip? hows that work then?

Hmmm well tried taking the CMOS battery out and clearing it but no effect. Seems most topics on this say you need a new bios chip from asus. I have opened a case with Asus customer service to see whats what.

Can anyone advise whats involved with using a "new bios chip"? Does it go on the 7 pin jumper to the left of the bottom PCI slot?
 
insert that asus cd and sit back and pray....

I killed my Asus P5B board 2 months ago when the bios flash just failed... Asus claim to have a fix corrupted bios feature, u simply insert the mainboard cd and restart and let it auto reload the default bios..... but ill warn u it didnt work for me/ and hasnt worked for so many.

Moral of story dont flash when needed or flash using there Ez flash thru the bios or from True Dos mode.

I ended up RMA time/Goodluck.
 
Thanks Highlander. Im in the same boat. Tried with CD and USB key in but the system doesn't get far enough to post to use them :(

Just seen posts on the asus forum stating the 0202 bios rev on the cd is full of holes and never use the asus update util as it can corrupt the bios. No ****!

Grrrr.

Even when i installed everything yesterday the Bios kept coming up with a CPU uCode loading error. MAybe thats why it failed to verify the when flashing?
 
Just like my problem, seems the BIOS loses its initial boot loader and just gets stuck ! The Blitz board came with the LCP poster which eternally informas "CPU INIT" while the mobo is trying to POST....according to the manual, this is the very first step of the BIOS load-up.....so I think I (we) am (are) scr$w&d :(

I did this with my first P5K Deluxe. It seems that Asus Updater is the cause. I'm sorry to say it, but the board is dead, RMA time

I have been reading around & found the best\safest method of doing a bios update is through EZflash.
 
So it is a big "Boooo !" to ASUS Updater, then ;) Oh well, the Blitz is going back.....just gotta decide whether or not to get a replacement or refund (as currently planned)...guess I can now see how (poor) my P5W does with the quad :D
 
Yeah use Ezflash and usb stick , it works well , will probaly trying my premium if it arrives tomorrow hope that flashes ok
 
Ezflash and usb stick allways works for me, its the Asus Updater that has problems, If Asus carry on like this, my next board will not be an Asus
 
Bad luck guys, yeah this is the thing u only find out about something till its far too late.

Sorta weird how u hear oh its got Crash free bios this and that feature and it still dont work !

I think RMA is the best just say it died and wont post....

I too used the update software from Vista.... and was watching as it updated and then went to verify and BANG, said it failed thought no worries letme restart and retry it.... and well bad mistake

Proberly coulda reflashed it with original bios or older one and saved it but didnt.

Im still considerng Asus P5K as an option/ cos at end of the day lots of mobos have this recoverycrashbios type feature and i bet it dont work anyhow...but will see.

Yes true dos of that Ezflash from bios seems best bet...

i know this dosen't help but that error is due to it not having the necessary microcode for your cpu in the shipping BIOS, this is the case where a BIOS is not aware of the cpu stepping or model (you got a G0 chip right?) sometimes it'll POST with the chip and sometimes not when thats the case, obviously did for you, not sure if this would've caused a badflash but i doubt it.
 
Sadly, this is one of the things you only find out about after it's too late...

Lesson for the future: ALWAYS flash the bios when in the bios/dos mode, never in windows, it's a shame that asus's updater is a pile of fish, because i've seen about 10 failed b ios flashes, all on asus boards, in the last couple of days or so :(

Asus came back with "try clearing cmos and check componants" comments then said contact seller for RMA an testing so I've sent a mail to OcUK to see what they recommend next. Im hoping its just a new bios chip that can be sent as I spent all saturday building the system in a new antec P182 case using the cable tidy facility and am not looking forward to dismantling it*L* Especially that Noctua fan assembly as that was huge! and a real pain.

If the obard needs RMA'ing i presume the Q6600 (G0) is ok to just unclip and pull out?
 
You can also buy a new BIOS chip from an online store and get it flashed with the right BIOS, there's one based in Wales if I remember rightly. I used them myself, costs about a tenner overall. :)
 
oo thanks Richdog! Some sort of bios repair shop is a definate possibility i guess.

I've never replaced a Bios chip though, can you point me to a procedure?
 
Nope you'll need to Google one im afraid. Basically all you do anyway is remove old BIOS chip using stiff metal pin (or equiv) or a proper BIOS removal tool and then swap it out. It's really simple. Here's the site that does it http://bios-repair.co.uk/ :)
