sorry, this is a noob post, and i didn't find the answer with search.

thinking of trying to overclock my machine a bit. this is the spec of the core components.

======================================
Intel Core 2 Quadro Extreme Edition QX6700 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB)

EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
======================================

i tried with my old amd cpus, and for this i was able to find guides specific to amd (i remember i had to drop the mobo multi or whatever it was called, before raising the cpu multi), but i am not finding anything specific for lga775 cpus.

one of the things i don't know is, if i raise the cpu multi, will this speed up everything else (like raise the fsb), or does it only change the cpu speed.

i really don't know where to start. can anybody give me a link to a specific guide for this setup, or give me a few pointers.

here is how the relevant section of my bios looks.

The cpu speeds is calculated by

FSB x Multi

e.g 400mhz (FSB) x 9 (multi) = 3600mhz (cpu clock speed).

Some folk run with a lower mutli but still atain the same cpu clockspeed for the purposes of overclocking ram and keeping the FSB high.

e.g 450mhz (FSB) x 8 (multi) = 3600mhz (cpu clockspeed).

In your case the FSB will appear quad pumped such as 400FSB = 1600. Just divide the quad pumped fsb by 4 and you get its 'normal' value that will be familiar to most overclocking guides.

Here is a guide specific to your motherboard with more info :

that is perfect. thanks very much:D

right. i tried the stuff from that thread, but mustn't have got it right as windows would not start.

went back to default fsb, and all i've changed is the cpu multi. raised it from 10 to 11, which gives me 2.93ghz cpu.

currently running prime 95 on all 4 cores and it hasn't failed yet (i'm about 10 minutes into the test).

cpu is at 72c, and with orthos (a while ago) it was at 78c.

do you think this is too hot. oh, by the way on idle it runs at about 60c.

yeah i'm currently on stock inter cooler, but yesterday i ordered a freezer 7 pro. i looked at all the ones you linked to but i don't think they'll fit in my case.
